Yep, first ever double hat-trick in a T20 World Cup, and only the third player to do it in T20 internationals full stop. With the exception of Van der Merwe dragging on to the stumps, they were all proper wicket-taking deliveries as well.

Just noticed Sri Lanka are playing in the prelims. Didn't realise they'd slipped that low down the rankings. Below Afghanistan! Blush

Week One Roundup A

Following a comfortable start for Oman and a historic upset for Scotland, the first set of preliminary matches concluded with Ireland cruising past Netherlands and Sri Lanka avoiding any banana skins as they brushed Namibia aside. Tomorrow, Scotland get the chance to put one foot in the next round with a crucial match against Papua New Guinea; meanwhile, the pressure will be on Bangladesh to bounce back from their opening day shock with a win against Oman.

Leading Run-scorers

1. Jatinder Singh (OMA) - 73
2. Assad Vala (PNG) - 56
3. Max O'Dowd (NED) - 51
4. Aqib Ilyas (OMA) - 50
5. Chris Greaves (SCO) - 45

Leading Wicket-takers

1. Zeeshan Maqsood (OMA) - 4 [for 20]
2. Curtis Campher (IRE) - 4 [for 26]
3. Mark Adair (IRE) - 3 [for 9]
4. Mahedi Hasan (BAN) - 3 [for 19]
5. Brad Wheal (SCO) - 3 [for 24]

Another solid win for Scotland puts them in the box seat for progression to the next round, though they're not home and hosed yet. Bangladesh's victory against Oman leaves both teams snapping at the heels of the Scots, and it could all come down to net run-rate if Oman and Bangladesh both win on Thursday.

Week One Roundup B

Scotland sit in pole position in Group B, but their position is far from secure. A tie or abandonment tomorrow would be sufficient to see them through, but Oman need only a win to leapfrog them, and if that happens, the turnaround on net run-rate would more than likely allow Bangladesh to pip them to second with a victory of their own. It's not entirely mission impossible for Papua New Guinea at the bottom, but they'd need a thumping win over the Tigers and one for the Scots as well to even have a prayer of qualification. In Group A, Sri Lanka are already assured of progression while Friday's opponents Netherlands have been prematurely eliminated, so it's now a winner-takes-all shootout between Ireland and Namibia for the second qualifying berth.

Nominally improbable Dutchman Max O'Dowd leads the run-scoring so far as one of two batsmen to reach three figures, alongside Oman's Jatinder Singh, though the former will certainly be on the plane home by the weekend and the latter may well join him. Wickets have been broadly spread - despite one hat-trick and another double hat-trick, we're yet to see a single five-fer in a match - but a good four-wicket showing from the Fizz against Oman has catapulted him up the rankings, while Sri Lanka's skiddy young mystery spinner Theekshana has risen to the top through his consistency and meanness.

Leading Run-scorers

1. Max O'Dowd (NED) - 121
2. Jatinder Singh (OMA) - 113
3. Assad Vala (PNG) - 74
4. Richie Berrington (SCO) - 72
5. David Wiese (NAM) - 72

Leading Wicket-takers

1. Maheesh Theekshana (SRI) - 6 [for 42]
2. Mustafizur Rahman (BAN) - 6 [for 68]
3. Bilal Khan (OMA) - 5 [for 34]
4. Joshua Little (IRE) - 5 [for 37]
5. Mark Adair (IRE) - 5 [for 44]

Bangladesh have wiped the floor with Papua New Guinea and are now assured of a place in the next round. Scotland will still progress with a win or a tie, but a defeat will definitely eliminate them.

Oman 122 all out off their twenty, losing Jatinder Singh for a duck was a massive blow for them at the start. Scotland have to fancy this from here, it's theirs to lose.

By my fairly hazy reckoning, Scotland can top the group and avoid England's Super Six pool if they knock this total off in under seventeen overs. They've made a leisurely start for the time being, which is probably the right approach.

Hang on, what am I on about? They'll top the group if they win anyway, they'll be clear on points. Confusing myself here Doh

Munsey gone, Scotland 33-1. Oman desperately needed that. Still advantage Scotland after a good start.

Coetzer gone, Scotland 75-2 at the halfway point. 47 off 60 balls will do the job, and it should be a pushover. Oman need a miracle.

A walk in the park for Scotland, who'll now join India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and New Zealand in the next round.
