Labour Leadership Contest
I'm relieved given the dirty campaign.

I really object to the way you talk about English voters, 0762, it's very offensive. It's George Galloway splitting the vote. The tories have always had plenty of support in the spen area. That's why the Tories changed the boundary to Batley & Spen from Batley & Morley.and we got Elizabeth Peacock as MP in 1983 and we didn't get rid of them til 1997.

Tracy Brabin was not popular. This has nothing to do with Keir Starmer.

And by the way, the majority was about 3000 in the last election. Both Labour and Conservatives have lost ground ... because of Galloway.

Gi'yer'ed a shake lad. Galloway has tried every trick in the book since he lost his own seat for being an obnoxious prick. He was sussed out in Bradford and he continues with a divisive agenda that unfortunately meets the agenda of far too many nutjobs.
You wouldn't like to have him north of the border.

Even though many couldn't be arsed to vote, enough did return a proper result.

Galloway is now claiming he wants the result put aside because he was on the other side of the street to the one someone said he was and that affected the voting. Taking a lead from Trump or what?

Multi-tasking. I can listen, ignore and forget all at the same time.

And there are lots of things he has been accused of during this campaign. If they are investigated and found to be correct, he should have been barred from standing!

On a slightly different tack, who was the cretin who was ushering/touching her on the way to the microphone for her victory speech. Creepy in my opinion.
Cabbage is still good for you

If labour weren't so half arsed policy wise and pushing out islamophobic messages themselves there wouldn't be any space for Galloway to operate in.

I've no time for Galloway but when labour were an actual functioning Social Democratic Party, albeit one with a poor leader, Galloway was never at the races. He could very easily have cost labour this seat, maybe next time he will be successful.

Actually looking at the vote share over the years this seat looks a dead cert to go tory in the next GE...Unless Kim can build some bridges with the muslim community.

That's an over-simplified view of the problems in Batley (and all surrounding towns).

I'd imagine they are the same as problems everywhere else, but I'm talking about the Labour Party creating division in the area as much as galloway did.

Jo Cox's statement that we had "more in common" was such an inspirational speech. Now her sister has the job, it's to be hoped she can heal these divisions that have sprung up since her murder.
There are so many problems nationally as well as locally, but the main ones in the Labour Party seem to be about Palestine and Brexit. Anybody who speaks up in support of Palestine is immediately stamped on as anti semetic, even if they're Jewish themselves.
And Brexit was without doubt what caused the crumbling of the red wall last election defeat and Jeremy's dithering over it. But really he had no choice but to dither because the party was split 50/50 over it.
Starmer has come down on the side of those who believe it's ok to have apartheid in Palestine, which is not helpful for Batley & Spen, an area with a huge muslim population. Kim Leadbeater had her photo taken with some lads wearing Palestine t-shirts and was roundly condemned for it by some in the Party.
You just can't win everybody over.
