England, aka rUK v Scotland, Fri 18 June

Well it ended up having the 0-1 win for Scotland written all over it except for the fact Scotland can't seem to buy a goal at the moment!!! England created a few first half chances and hit the post but never got going at all. Scotland worked hard all game but are just devoid of a decent clinical striker to stick away one of the few chances that they will create. England should still go through and this gives Scotland a chance as well.

Heyyy heyyyy!! A 0-0 result v England and their players' "tripping faces", walking off the Wembley pitch, really told you everything you wanna know re ambitions being dashed by a resolute and well organised Scotland team. The Wembley stands devoid of all England fans literally within about 10-15 secs after the final whistle while lots of Scotland fans remaining to celebrate with the players!! Thumb up Billy Gilmour definitely the MOTM but closely followed by a good number of other Scotland contenders for that award. In reality, this vg result gives Scotland a lifeline v Croatia. But lets see what effect this intensely contested match has had on our players re injuries, tiredness etc. Fingers crossed we are not badly affected in that regard!! Anyway, Scotland v Croatia suddenly becomes a cup final for us and what a huge pity that Hampden Park can't be filled to capacity by a euphoric Tartan Army. I'm just praying that the lack of a clinical striker doesn't become the main factor in "suckering" our progress to the next round. Also Lady Luck favouring us with that Stones free header in the 1st half - very welcome indeed as we didn't wanna concede the first goal to them and deserved a bit of good fortune for a change. Next stop Hampden Park and that impending "cup final" v a team that needs a victory too - history beckons.

Pleased with that, think it was the least the guys deserved for their efforts tonight. They could quite possibly have won that game, but we just cant seem to get the goal or two you need at this level.

Not one failure in the team, everyone played their part but I thought the central midfield 3 of mcginn/gilmour/mcgregor was a much better blend than Monday. They worked really hard and played with quality. Big Hanley was also immense and possibly my MOTM.

England are packed with good players but they seemed a bit directionless at times the night, they seemed to run out of ideas after the hour mark. I could visibly see our back 3 growing in confidence as the game went on.

We go into the last game with a shout of qualifying - don't think I could ask for more as a Scotland supporter after such a bad start.

Really really poor by England. 4-3-3 was the wrong formation, should have stuck with the 4-2-3-1 and played Grealish, Foden and Sancho behind Kane. Haven't a clue why Southgate took off Foden when he should have took Sterling off, Sterling is supposed to give us pace in behind and stretch the opposition's defence but he got outmuscled off the ball by the Scottish players or gave away possession. Harry Kane seemed invisible in that game and there was no real link-up play between Foden and Sterling towards Kane. We played far too defensive and the only real chance we had in the whole game was when John Stones hit the post, can't really think of any other opportunities that England created in that game. Scotland defended well throughout the whole game and tested Pickford a few times and could have nicked a goal towards the end through Dykes or Che Adams. Scotland were very physical and they seemed up for it more than England were.

Scotland is an ok team and all they need is 1-2 strikers who can finish and they could qualify for the World Cup.

Czech Republic is going to be a tough game, a win or a draw will see us get out of the group. Scotland can still get out of the group all they need to do is beat Croatia.

Terrific performance from Scotland considering our limitations. England were rightly criticised for their performance, all due to the fact that we didn't let them swan around like prima donnas.

If only Dykes was unfit for Tuesday, we might stand a good chance of progressing with a different striker, as we might need a two-goal win. And England could help us along with a convincing win over the Czechs. Whistle

A draw suits the English and the Czechs, suspect that's what will play out.

Clarke put his faith in our players that can use the ball well - gilmour and mcgregor in particular....and got his reward. McGinn got further forward as a result.

I don't think Tierney was 100 per cent but he cruised it. The balance in the team was much better with him and mctominay at the back - even if they aren't natural CBs.

Croatia will be tough, they have a big incentive now too. But our record is good with them, just wish we had a better striker than dykes - even though he ran himself into the ground last night.

Well played Scotland, well played!

Support deserves massive credit as well, mostly jovial before kick off and superb rendition of Flower of Scotland on several occasions during the game.
You showed resilience, grit and determination and thoroughly deserved the point.

As for England, we’ll leave that for another day.

Good luck v Croatia on Tuesday
