Nicola Sturgeon finally begins the process of separation!
I cannot stand that wee dick Ross.

Ditto! What is it about this guy that really pisses off lotsa Scot observers/listeners? Is it this unsmiling, angry character that DRoss continually displays? Or is it this impression of him sending out this message that he is a conniving little sycophant and a backstabber "to boot" - a horrible specimen of a human being who also comes over as a spoilt little angry brat who likes to get his own way plus no wowww factor whatsoever if one was considering this man to be in any reputable political position.

Just listening to Tony Blair's latest verbal incursion against Scotindy and "oor Tony" claiming that devolution acts as a bulwark to independence as Scots won't want indyref2 even if they vote for an SNP majority. I must say that he and that quisling of an ex PM, Gordon Brown, are like two old vultures circling over the dead carcass of the UK. And yet they still treat Scotland with contempt!
The difference is that Scotland is growing up and realises that "Teflon Tony's" views on what is good for our nation mirror the beginning of the end of the Union. Even now, Blair, Brown and Sarwar (plus that fanatical Unionist plum, Ian Murray) can't admit that perhaps there is a better way ahead through independence and that Scotland should have a choice as passionately preached by Nicola Sturgeon to Andrew Marr on Sunday. They would rather see Scotland "shackled" to Johnson's government and the sleaze that accompanies it. No point even listening to these part-time Scots any more!! They are full of Unionist bullshit that is clear to most self-respecting Scottish voters.

Now that Nicola has secured an impressive result for the SNP in the election and there is a Pro-independence majority at Holyrood, I look forward to the undoubted proposal for another referendum re Scottish Independence in the next couple of years. Even Michael Gove congratulated Nicola on her victory and he and Boris, like Nicola, both stressed the priority of Covid recovery. Neither said "NO", which is a definite softening of attitude, but they're being boxed into a corner.

We all know it will happen fairly soon, but there was the usual arrogant Tory clown on TV today saying that the SNP did not have a mandate to proceed democratically, although Boris did have a mandate in the UK. Considering the SNP gained 47.7% of the vote and Boris only gained 43.6%, he is another Tory living in cloud cuckoo land. And of course the BBC are rabble-rousing, making great play of getting Nicola to commit to a date. The media are desperate to keep stirring the pot. Just let it go and let things take their course - you'll get your story soon enough.

The whole majority argument is just desperado stuff really. If it had been FPTP in Scotland, the SNP would have had 80% of the seats.

The system we use is meant to encourage coalition and co-operation. But pro independence parties have well over 50% anyway, so I can't see how it can be denied that another referendum is 'in play' now after we have recovered from Covid.

This time the SNP have to get their arguments properly prepared for the next one, I'd recommend a few snappy slogans on buses.

Good comments! Thumb up I wonder how much public money Gove spent on that sinister Brit govt Union Unit that was also "piling in" wads of money to the Editors of newspaper "rags" like the Daily "lying" Express, The Scum and the Daily Hatemail to bring down the SNP and the Scot Govt with months of anti SNP/Scot govt propaganda comparable with the worst state media in Russia - NOTE HOW IT HAS SUDDENLY ALL GONE QUIET ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND OTHER NEWS OUTLETS AFTER THAT AMAZING ELECTION VICTORY, AN EXTRAORDINARY 4TH TERM IN GOVT!!! And the Brit govt sponsoring all this anti Scotland shitt during a pandemic FFS??????????? FAILED MISERABLY AS EXPECTED!!! Agreed that their shameless onslaught on telling a Scottish population that a majority SNP election result was mandatory for a Scot referendum to happen WAS ABSOLUTELY BOGUS FOR THE REASONS PREVIOUSLY STATED. And how coy were most of these Tory Brit govt c#### (apart from that odious little Scot Tory shit, "four jobs" DRoss, who will sadly infect our Scot Parliament with his presence due to attaining a secure "back door" list seat!!Thumb down) after that fantastic result when one considers that it is a rigged PR voting system that makes it very difficult to attain a one party majority govt - rigged by a previous Brit govt that wasn't even a Tory one!! All these colluding unionists, even with their seedy tactical voting in various Scot constituencies, were still slaughtered - the facts are there for all to see!!! HENCE THE COYNESS FROM THOSE LONDON TORIES AFTER BEING FINALLY TOLD TO SHUT IT!! And that finally leads me to the Scot Labour Party and what they actually represent in Scotland after watching the unimpressive antics of many of their members and supporters. A big proportion of their membership/supporters are union members and ordinary punters who favour the sovereign right of Scots to have a Scot referendum. Watching their own people (and also Libdem voters) referring to a common consensus with the Tories more or less confirms they were voting for continual Tory rule for who knows how long and also increasing corruption and privatisation of all social servs - DID YOU SEE THAT BETRAYAL OF THEIR OWN SOCIAL CARE PROMISES (ENGLAND) IN THE QUEEN'S SPEECH FFS!!! I suppose they don't realise that devolution itself is under attack and the cosy option of staying in the Union while being protected from the worst effects by devolution is soon not to be an option. I'd implore Scot Labour people who are not part of this extreme group to "cross over" and be done with it - join lotsa other disenfranchised Scot Labour people who have "seen the light" a long time ago and bolster the Scotindy movement. As for Scot Labour's leader, Anas Sarwar? He can just sit this one out when it comes to accepting the democratic right of the Scot people - THE FENCE YOU ARE SITTING ON HAS ALREADY TORN THE LABOUR PARTY ASUNDER ANAS!!! DIDN'T YOU NOTICE THAT POLITICAL DEVASTATION FOR YOUR PAYMASTERS IN ENGLAND YET??? IMO millionaire leaders of parties who don't have a clue about working people are just the same as millionaire owners of footie clubs - just using politics or footie for their own ends!!!Thumb down

It's quite incredible to hear these unionist clowns in Holyrood try to equate a peaceful demonstration for humanitarian reasons where no one was arrested with a drunken sectarian mob running riot in Glasgow.

I guess thats all they have now.

It is an absolute insult to that community but it is indeed all they have to offer now - shameless bullshit and that little clown of a Scot Tory leader really is taking the piss with the most unimpressive narrow presentation of crap unionist values. The biggest sickener for me is the fact this chancing non-entity is picking up a whacking big salary from public money and he is not the only unelected back door MSP to be "screwing the system" with impunity.

Just out of interest chaps and playing devils advocate here ..... or maybe stirring it a bit if you like (just getting my excuses in early) ....

If you have another referendum in the lifetime of the current Scottish Parliament, or even the next one or two, are you going for the 51%-49% split in favour of leaving, which means half of Scotland are pissed off (like the 48-49% of us that voted to remain in the Brexit vote), and at the end of the day that makes it 1-1 on referendums with possible extra-time and penalty kicks to follow, or are you in favour of a "real" majority of say 2/3rds of votes are needed to force the split? You still piss off 1/3rd of the voters but there's absolutely no argument that the remainers can then come back with. The VAST majority have voted for it rather than one or two votes that might eventually be proved to be a bit, er, dodgy. Not that that stopped the Brexit "majority" being, ahem, accepted!!!

Just asking because I mentioned this on the Brexit thread after the Brexit vote and it seemed to go down rather well had we insisted on that approx 2/3rds v 1/3rd split for Brexit and to be honest, it should be used for any bloody referendum that isn't a piss poor excuse for an election. Strange that Bodgit and his merry men/women haven't got round to thinking about it, nor her with the one and only major policy in mind up your way to be honest.

If it's been asked before and answered, sorry - just point me in the direction of where. Like most, I don't have time to read every post on every thread.

As far as I'm concerned, theo, a simple majority of one would be enough, the same as the Westminster lot are elected on Mind you, I'm not really representative of Scottish Independence supporters, as I wouldn't advocate joining the EU, but that's another story.

Anyway, I think you should be declaring an interest on this subject as you Yorkies are going to pinch our ideas so that you can change God's own county into God's own country! Tongue
