In other news we've managed to import a double mutant ninja virus from India.

Boris Johnson has been urged to act after an Indian COVID variant with potentially worrying mutations was found in the UK.

There are fears the variant, which features two mutations, could evade current vaccines, as well as immunity gained from previous infection.

Dr Anthony Costello, a member of Independent Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, said: "This is a disaster. We have more than 50 flights from India daily. Seventy-seven cases of a really nasty India variant that affects younger people already here?

"Surge testing without isolation support. Contacts not being tested. This is a total shambles. We have learnt nothing after a year."

Well the public have (mostly, but you can't educate the really thick) - but one Prime Idiot and his hand picked Cabinet full of incompetents and "who are theys?" haven't learned a thing. He wants to go on a Trade Trip to India next month as their Covid numbers go through the roof again.

The man is a complete and total idiot. The first leader of a western country to cop for it twice?  Still, given he doesn't buy "anything for the weekend sir?" from his barber either, he probably believes he's now as immune to Covid as he thinks he is to getting women pregnant.

Because Johnson is going to be visiting towards the end of the month to talk about a trade deal including Scotch and cars, so he won't want to get on the wrong side of them. Biggest problem is India were demanding freedom of movement to Britain if we did a free trade deal with them.

As much as I don't like the EU and there red tape etc, we still need to trade with them as they are our biggest exporter/importer and visa versa so it would make sense from a economical viewpoint to rejoin the single market to help small business and the self employed.

I don't understand how the Tories are 14 pts clear of Labour in the polls, surely you would think in the last week with all the revelations of the lobbying scandal and sleaze that the electorate would be angry but a lot of people don't seem to care. Then you have Labour who seem to fence sit and flip flop all over the place.

The May elections are going to be very interesting, I think they will tell which way the wind is blowing. If Labour lose the Hartlepool by-election to the Tories then I think Starmer and Labour are in real trouble.

We still need to be very careful, the effects of Covid on still-unvaccinated young people can be long and dangerous, these new variants that are appearing need to be monitored closely. International travel needs to be very tightly controlled.

I don't believe we are seeing a vaccine bounce for the tories, the tory vote has fallen a little but its never went lower than 37% in the last year. What IS happening is that the left and other parts of labours voting coalition are walking away and Starmer is only attracting Lib Dem voters not the small c conservatives in the red wall seats that he hoped for.

It seems like the only plan labour have is to hope the tories xxxx it up so bad that the electorate don't feel there is any risk in giving Labour a go.

More than 440 financial firms have shifted thousands of jobs and £1 trillion of assets out of the UK and into the EU because of Brexit, with more pain still to come, according to new research.

A study by the New Financial think tank indicates that Brexit has hit the City of London harder than first thought and that the impact is likely to grow.

It found that banks have shifted about £900bn of assets from the UK – approximately 10 per cent of the total assets held by the UK banking system.

They didnae put that on the side of a bus thats for sure.

Anybody on this Sb board surprised by this revelation??? I doubt it because that problem was highlighted/debated a couple of years ago (and occasionally mentioned again up to now) with reference to different independent economic assessments re the negative impact of Brexit esp when lotsa the Brexit protagonists like Johnson, Farage and others were clearly telling "porkies"!!! "Oven ready" and "an easy transition, no problem" are bogus comments that come to mind.

It's no surprise at all. The financial guys and plenty of big industry said make it easy for us or we'll move our business. Latest government advice to exporters is to open a facility on the other side of the Channel or in Ireland, the one thing they constantly claimed/lied nobody would have to do. Doh

They also claimed there wouldn't be a border between Ireland and Northern Ireland or one between Northern Ireland and England/Scotland/wales Well there was always going to be one somewhere no matter what lies Bodgit was spouting. The Eu were not going to allow a back door into/out of the EU market.
