They have made a mess of it for sure. But I don't see where they were being 'bully boys'. They are entitled to invoke article 16 to protect their citizens and market if they see fit.

But there could be no 'hard border' without Boris and the Teoseach's signing up for it. Nor could article 16 necessarily prevent vaccine getting to Northern Ireland, it gets its vaccine from the UK anyway..

They ordered 3 months late after the UK and then expect to be 1st in the queue. They threatened to block exports of vaccine from Pfizer/Biontech to the UK. The German media put out lies about the Astrazeneca vaccine to say it was only 8% effective in over 65s and now Macron and the French are saying it's 10% effective. They expected the UK to give some of our supply to them. The EU commission ordered a raid on Astrazeneca in Belgium. They expected the Astrazeneca vaccine before they gave it the go ahead. A German MEP talked about 'trade wars' and showing 'weapons' and said that the UK and the companies would pay for this on the same day as Holocaust memorial day.

They triggered Article 16 and could have put the Good Friday agreement at risk if they hadn't done a U-turn. The EU's argument is with the pharmaceutical companies not the UK. France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands had agreed to get their own vaccines but the EU said no and that they would do it as 27 countries and look what's happened? Germany went behind the EU's back and ordered off Pfizer/Biontech. The EU put all their eggs in one basket hoping that the French vaccines would work but they both failed and then panicked.

The EU have shown their true colours.

Imagine if the boot was on the other foot and the EU had got in before the UK. The EU would turn round and say sorry it's not our problem. All sides of the political spectrum have come out and condemned the EU all except the SNP and Sturgeon.

The Commission negotiated the contracts on behalf of the EU as a way to at least try and avoid the ugly free-for-all that erupted last year, when national governments squabbled over orders of PPE and they secured lower prices and guarantees but at the cost of speed of delivery. Remember this vaccine would not be available in the quantity it is without EU investment but that seems to be getting forgotten.

The contract has been now published. It includes binding quantities, it includes UK facilities, it does not contain a first come first serve clause. AZ have fucked up big time too, they only applied for approval in the EU on 12th January, weeks after it had approval in Britain (the UK got Pfizer early because it absolved the company of any blame if it went wrong)

Article 16 wouldn't have put the Good Friday agreement at risk either, Thats Snarlene talking, and she actually wants a land border on the island which is why she was urging Boris for restrictions weeks ago. Someone at the commission totally fucked up there because it couldn't have been enacted without Dublins approval anyway.

Ultimately AZ have played everybody, including the UK , for mugs in this with their inflated promises.

Yep!! Absolutely right! I'm an ex contracts man, done them for years - compiled them, negotiated them, reviewed them and revised/refined them. Studied rotten civil eng contracts (+ others) and lessons learnt from them. This is all about the set clauses in a contract that has been signed and sealed by all parties and the print detail is obviously very important!! Also the comment that the EU has "shown its true colours"!!?? WTF does that mean???? The EU officials are likewise trying to deal with a pandemic in the best way that they can do it!! F### the Brit political isolationism and a reason to find fault with the EU who I've previously said are not perfect by any manner or means but I certainly don't "buy" the shit, the jingoism, the isolationism, the angst, the xenophobia, the misogny, the politics of hate and subversion of democratic principles and the law itself being preached from these Brexit/Tory c### in Westminster!! May I also add that if the Brexit con had not been stupidly approved and done, this issue wouldn't even be debated at all. The other issue that struck me about this vaccine dispute is to ask, "Did nobody observe the ridiculous jingoism attached to that moment when Johnson and his fascist accomplices, like Gove and Hancock, started 'beating the British drum' re their great achievement etc etc" - IT WAS F###### WELL EMBARRASSING COMING FROM THE BIGGEST F### UP GOVT IN EUROPE!! My take on yesterday if the EU had said we need help then we would have helped them, no ifs no buts, we still will but the heavy handedness has put that back a while
And a word of warning for our friends North of the Border, for the last four years the EU have used the Republic as a useful stooge however when the chips are down they chose the time to do a Robert Kilroy-Silk to share or to shaft, they chose the latter

Her silence speaks volumes if it had been us that had cocked up boy would we have known, why the silence though is she helping her husband shred documentation in relation to Alex Salmond.
