When democracy is eroded and is replaced with corporatocracy and militarism you get Trump.
The challenge for Biden now is to push back hard against gerrymandering and voter suppression, then once COVID is in the rear mirror the democrats could really start to build a new America. The demographics are on their side.

I see he is being criticized for the Executive orders, both in terms of the fact the Dems always had a go at Trump for his use of them and for the content. The irony is that if Trump had any idea how to actually create a law and if he could actually have created laws with his crazy agenda, then Biden would not have been able to simply use an EO to cancel some of Trumps EOs. Shows that a real politician who understands this will create laws for sweeping policy decisions that then can't be easily undone by a new President, as we saw when Trump tried to dismantle the ACA that Obama put into law.
Biden's problem could still be the Senate though. Its a 50-50 tie between the parties so the VP has the deciding vote but there are enough Dems who are very moderate and will not allow a progressive agenda to be passed easily. Covid should be the focus, you can only paper over the cracks in the economy while ever that is still affecting us but the economy must come straight after that. Without a strong economy its going to be tough to finance any real initiatives he may have. Getting to 2022 intact and with some wins under his belt is also a goal, in 2022 the midterm elections will see a larger number of vulnerable GOP Senate seats come up for re-election, and if the Dems can grab a few of those while retaining their own then that Senate majority coupled with the House majority they already have will really enable him to make a real difference.

So President Biden's $1.9T COVID Relief Plan, one of the biggest spending packages in the history of US politics, passed by the HOR. However, I must say the length of time this has taken to help cash-strapped American citizens right across the country really is astonishing when one considers we are acknowledging the 1st anniversary of the official declaration of a global pandemic by the WHO and the US has now sadly lost well over 500k people to COVID. Add to that the fact that the Republicans didn't back this bill (not a single vote!!) but some of them shamelessly trying to take credit by attaching themselves to the benefits for certain business sectors and citizens in their relative states. And one wonders why many of us have such a low regard for politicians in general and particularly these kinda insidious individuals who don't behave with the sincerity and honesty that it would be nice to see dominating politics again. Sadly we have the same kinda crass politics, poor behaviour/attitude being played out almost on a daily basis by many Brit govt officials as well!!!

Looking at President Biden's first 100 days in office and it is a mixed bag of opinion re his approval rating in a CNN study re different elements that he is managing.
Coronavirus - 66%
Environmental Policy - 54%
Racial Injustice - 54%
Commander in Chief - 52%
The Economy - 51%
Taxes - 50%
Foreign Affairs - 48%
Immigration - 41%
Gun Policy - 40%
Some of his lower figures like the one for Gun Policy are intractable issues anyway and even though such opposition to much-needed gun reform appears to be bizarre to any normal-thinking observer; it's the way that it is in such a divided country like America where one damning stat shows that only 7% of Republicans give him a positive popularity rating.

I notice the Dems' voting rights bill blocked by the Republicans in the Senate and McConnell (with the Rep "sheep" aligned alongside him to vote accordingly) clearly a conniving hypocrite with some of his comments incl one that the voting system doesn't need fixing????? Ehhhhh!! That is exactly what his party extremists have done in states like Arizona and Georgia and that is why the bill has been drafted to stop this kinda nonsense within US state politics!!! The voting system is indeed OK and not in need of fixing!! Watching these underhand actions against the US voting system really is highly concerning and sinister TBF!! I just hope the Dems and Biden find a way to stop this type of blatant manipulation of a voting system that didn't suit Trump and his Republican "hangers-on" because they lost the US election last year.

The capitol insurrection showed you where things end up when you allow democracy to be sidelined in place of 'culture wars', you create a space for extremism. You just know trump didnt believe in any of that shit, he just lit that touch paper to get power.
America is an extremely fertile breeding ground for that kind of thing.
The same things been happening here to a large degree.

The thing with these RW parties across the world is that they have no politics at all, they only have soundbites and cliches that keep their base salivating. Its popular, entertainment politics without any substance. Look back at Trumps 4 years, he essentially passed on bill, a bunch of tax cuts that expire in a couple of years anyway, everything else he did was antagonistic or calculated to just motivate the base!!
I did see today that there was a House primary and Trumps chosen candidate was beaten by a more traditional Republican, that is a good sign.
