Nicola Sturgeon finally begins the process of separation!
I agree about the difficulty of the timing of this mate, but I don't think Salmond can be blamed for that. He didnt set up the enquiry or create the timing, he has been asked to provide his submission and he has. That cant be held against him I'm afraid.

Whatever you think of Salmond it looks very much like hes been the victim of a political conspiracy, hes quite entitled to fight his case all the way regardless of any effect on the independence campaign. I know I would be !

I also think Salmond does not believe Sturgeon wants independence enough, as in she's happy if it falls in her lap but isn't prepared to really push for it. Thats also been backed up by key allies of his statements of late.

I'm inclined to agree about Sturgeon's lack of ambition over an immediate referendum. Given my opinion of her as a "nippy wee sweetie", one of her main strengths is being a thorn in the side of the UK Government.

She's possibly got a big problem with the Salmond case potentially undermining her authority, so I think the "power struggle" will have to be resolved first.
Cabbage is still good for you

I'm almost certain her and/or hubby have done something very xxxx naughty here. Nothing else can explain the lies, the obstruction to the enquiry and the comically improbable story she and her civil servants have came out with.

Sturgeon is a very confident media presence normally, but she really lost her cool on SKY with ridge before xmas, I mean Ridge clearly wasn't briefed properly but still managed to fire in a few pertinent questions that turned Nicola into a blinking, slavering mess. She isn't used to that kind of quality of journalist up here. At that point i thought she is definitely 'at it'.

If I was as guilty as they say Salmond is, I wouldn't be wanting to go anywhere near the public arena with this stuff again. Yet there he is firing it all out into there again. Makes you think eh ? Question is of course just how interested are the general public going to be ?

IMO Salmond will get nowhere in the eyes of the greater public and the majority of the Scotindy movement. It's what I said earlier - he may well be not guilty of said accusations, which I certainly predicted, but he is regarded as a sleaze ball who has been double-crossing his wife for years. It is all about public perception Jim. Also my impression of the so called grass roots backing of Salmond is that a big chunk of that association is this extreme element of certain Scotindy factions who seem to have a "beef" re the FM and her husband long before Salmond even reappeared on the scene. Some of these people even had an issue re both "filling their wellies" with very generous remuneration etc. I'm afraid that is "part n parcel" of being in top roles in any political or civil service capacity. I concur with Ritchie re a comment he made a long time ago on this Sb board that "politicians, no matter what their colours/affiliation, are in it for their own personal ambitions/agenda, some of them selfish ones". That is the "nature of the beast"! I'll just add that my judgement of this kinda affair will be based on my impression of the long term presentation (ethically, morally, how genuine/sincere etc) of an individual and that is all I can do as a grassroots supporter of Scotindy. I personally wish they would stop it and focus on the target of Scotindy. In the eyes of many within the Scotindy movement, this kinda inner fighting represents a "kick in the teeth" for the tens of thousands of people who give up their free time to leaflet, canvass and march (when permitted) etc in support of the independence cause and are all unified to attain one objective.

And breaking news this afternoon that the Scot Labour leader, Richard Leonard, has resigned!! A lotta Scot people will actually be asking, "Who"? Good timing from a Scotindy point of view because they don't have many replacements who can seamlessly fit in to the new vacant leader's position. Just listening to ex Scot FM, Lord McConnell (got his royal recognition for doing his bit for the unionist cause all these years ago) uttering the usual Labour waffle when asked on bbc radio to explain what the new leader's position would be re Scotindy, his shameless response being that Scotindy isn't relevant. Asked again to comment as the bbc interviewer emphasising that any new political leader would be asked to explain their position re the Scotindy issue - another "bodyswerve", another disingenuous unionist c### who didnae even wanna admit that well over 40% of the Scot Labour membership/backers favour Scotindy as well as certain trade unions in Scotland!! Thumb down

Nice man, but never a political leader in a million years.

Even as an independence supporter I disagreed with him naturally on a lot of things but I genuinely quite liked him and felt he was a decent person with good intentions.

Ditto from Nicola Sturgeon as well following his official resignation. I've lost count of the number of Scot Labour and Scot Con leaders who have not "lasted the course" with Sturgeon - another one oot the door with a whimper!

Labour is a busted flush up here, and that had very little to do with Richard Leonard. Away from independence I always felt Leonard acted with good intentions and decency. Not so sure we will be saying that about his replacement.

And he'd finally got them ahead of the tories in the polls Laugh

I love The National headline re the Scot Labour vacancy lol:-

Wanted: Labour Regional Manager, must be comfortable obeying orders, experience of election defeats useful, ability to think for yourself not required

Those pre-requisites apply to all the unionist opposition sycophants/leaders up here and that is a fact. It still amazes me that there are people within our Scottish population who favour this kinda subservience to London diktat but thankfully they are in a minority.

Anas Sarwar is taking over apparently. An absolute gift to the SNP.

Basically scrapping with 2 other parties for the declining unionist vote. What a sad state of affairs for what was once a proud party.
