Ched Evans Signs On Loan

Preston North End have completed the loan signing of forward Ched Evans from Fleetwood Town for the rest of the season.

The Welsh international striker, who has 13 caps for his country, came through the ranks at Manchester City, before a highly-successful spell with Sheffield United.

In two spells with Fleetwood he has scored 37 goals in less than 100 games for the Cod Army and he will take the No.26 shirt with the Lilywhites.

Manager Alex Neil was pleased to add the 32-year-old to his squad, saying: “He will add competition at the top end of the pitch. He is very physical; he wants to look after the ball, take it into his feet and get you up the pitch and equally score goals.

“He will be really excited about getting an opportunity in the Championship He’s an experienced player; he is a good lad – I have spoken to him at length and his character as much as anything else will be important for the team.”

Ched, who is cup tied this weekend, but will be eligible for the club’s next league game at Bristol City on 16th January said of the move: “I am really excited for the next six months, getting back to the Championship is brilliant. I’m really pleased for the opportunity and I’m looking to kick on.

“I’m really pleased to be here, the facilities and everything are brilliant and Preston North End is a club in a great position at the moment to kick on for the rest of the season.”

Jayson Molumby Joins On Loan For The Season

Preston North End have completed the loan signing of Irish international midfielder Jayson Molumby from Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion, subject to governing body ratification.

The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland team-mate of PNE skipper Alan Browne and Sean Maguire has signed until the end of the season, with permission to play in the Emirates FA Cup this weekend, if selected.

Having come through the Seagulls’ Academy, made 40 appearances whilst on loan with fellow Championship side Millwall last season, with the Lilywhites beating off a number of other clubs for his signature.

Speaking after completing the move, Jayson said: “I am really happy to be here. I spoke to the gaffer and the Irish boys here, who I know quite well, and it was a no brainer in the end and I am looking forward to getting started.

“Seani [Maguire] and Alan [Browne] speak very highly of the club and then the gaffer spoke to me and was the same and, in the end, I just wanted to get it done and I am really excited to get going and I just want to play some games and help the team.”

Manager Alex Neil said of his new No.21: “I think this is a signal of intent from us and he is a great acquisition. He has great energy, is good on the ball and is an Irish international.

“He has played at this level before for Millwall and he knows what it is about and we are delighted to get it across the line.”

Preston North End have made their third signing of the January transfer window, signing Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen on loan for the rest of the season.

The Danish international, 23, has worked with Preston North End goalkeeping coach Mike Pollitt before, at Rotherham United, where he spent the 2019/20 season on loan, making 38 appearances in their promotion-winning campaign.

The stopper, who has played for all the Danish youth international age groups, culminating in his first senior call up in September last year, spent the first half of this season on loan in the Belgian top flight with OH Leuven, but returned to the Foxes in the new year.

The arrival of Daniel comes after Lilywhites No.1 Declan Rudd picked up an injury in training, as manager Alex Neil explained: “We are really pleased to get this done and we have set off really well in this transfer window, in terms of getting our business done early and trying to find the gaps that are absolutely necessary in the squad.

“With the news that Declan is going to be out for a period, we felt it was only right and important that we covered that position off.

“We know what we are getting; young, enthusiastic, played at a good level, played international football for his country, so I think he will be a great addition.”

Daniel, who will take the No.22 shirt, said: “I cannot wait to start. Hopefully I can come and play some games for the last five months of the season. I am looking to get some games in and help the team.

“I cannot wait to show the staff that I want to play and hopefully I will be close to the team.”

Ben Whiteman Joins On Permanent Deal
Preston North End have completed the permanent signing of Doncaster Rovers’ captain Ben Whiteman for a significant undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal and will take the No.17 shirt for the Lilywhites.

Ben came up through Manchester United’s Academy before heading across the Pennines to Sheffield United, where he was given his debut by Nigel Clough back in 2014.

He has gone on to make almost 200 professional appearances in the last six years, scoring 32 goals in the process and, subject to governing body ratification, will be available for the weekend’s trip to Bristol City.

Speaking after becoming the club’s fourth signing of the January transfer window, the Rochdale-born man said: “I am over the moon to be at this massive football club.

"There weren’t many sides that I would have moved onto from Doncaster, but this ticked all the boxes and once I spoke to the manager it was a no brainer for me.

“As soon as I had finished with him, I had made my mind up straight away. He spoke very well and spoke very highly of the football club and I can’t wait to start.”

North End manager Alex Neil was delighted to have completed another deal for a much sought-after player, saying: “We have been after him since the window opened and we have managed to stave off a number of other suitors, who were interested, so it has been great business from us.

“He is a player who has his best years ahead of him. He is only 24 and I am really happy that we have managed to get him in.”

Club Captain Alan Browne Commits Future
Preston North End captain Alan Browne has put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half-year deal at Deepdale.
The Irish international’s new contract takes him to the summer of 2024 and to ten years with the Lilywhites.

The No.8 joined the club in January 2014 and has gone on to make 273 appearances, scoring 35 goals. He was the Sir Tom Finney player of the year winner in 2018, as well as picking up two goal of the season awards.

During his time with the club, he has also become a regular with his country, scoring once in 11 appearances for the Republic of Ireland and he was appointed club captain in the summer.

Speaking after completing the deal Alan said: “I have been here a long time and it is such a relief to get it over the line and have a few more years of me being at this fantastic club and hopefully we can make the next coming years successful.
“It is time to take the next step with my career. I had different opinions from different people and I wanted to gather as many opinions as I possibly could I felt that this was the right decision for me and hopefully I can progress with my own career, as well as with the football club.”

Manager Alex Neil was also delighted his skipper had committed his future to the club. He said: “The fact that since Tom Clarke left, we have made Alan the captain, shows how him how high a regard we hold Alan.

“He has been an ever-present since I have been here and his will to win, what the club means to him, how long he has been there, he is the right guy to take that armband forward and I am delighted he has committed himself to doing that for the next few years.”
