Is there any appetite in England for federalism ?

In Europe? I think there are people in England and Britain who want a federal Europe but they are a minority. I don't want federalism in Britain or Europe. I think federalism is dangerous as it can lead to dictatorships.

Scotland could be independent and have the status of crown dependency like the Isle of Man, Guernsey, Jersey etc. Look at the Isle of Man they are self-governing and look after their own affairs without being part of the UK or the EU and if they can do it with a population of about 83,000 and a GDP of £7.4 billion then Scotland could do it. Guernsey have a population of 63,000 and they aren't members of the EU but they do have a special relationship with the EU for trade.

It could work. Would the devolved regions get their money from central Government or would the regions generate and bring their own money in? Councils and Councillors would be held to account more.

Tusk openly stating support by the EU for Scotland re-joining on independence. Really throwing the cat among the pigeons.

This is where it gets really ugly I reckon, because the gloves are off now. I think up to the election they held back a bit in case it was another hung parliament. Now the EU will play hardball on everything from Gibraltar to fishing to financial services, and what do we have ? xxxx Dominic raab and liz truss Then on the other side you have trump who will squeeze us until he gets the maximum for American companies.

Note the former US ambassador Kim darroch confirming these xxxx plan to charge the NHS a fortune for pharmaceuticals.

I voted Remain in 2016 even though I am Eurosceptic and don't particular like the EU (or the Tory Government come to that) and I don't like the red tape and the bureaucracy or the direction that the EU want to go in but I voted Remain to oppose a Tory hard Brexit. I believe we should trade and work with the rest of Europe on things like research, science etc and co-operate as we are stronger together and as John Donne said 'No man is an island' but I believe the political side should be left up to the nation state.

Over the past few days I've see the views from both sides of the argument and I believe that both sides didn't know understand what they were voting for. The 'ultra remainers' seem to have trouble distinguishing Europe the continent from the European Union which is a political and economical union. On the other side you have the 'hard brexiteers' who think the last 10 years of austerity were the EU's fault and not the Tories. They spoke to one woman in a voxpop on the BBC who said she voted Brexit to get our industry back but our industry was sold off by Thatcher and the Tory Party of the 80's and 90's. Someone else said we are taking back control and we will be an independent country again but the thing is we've always been an independent country and if they wanted to take back control then they should have voted for Labour in the December General Election as Labour wanted to bring public utilities, railways and infrastructure back into public ownership.

Our railways, public utilities are owned by foreign companies who are mainly based in Europe and they will still remain in the hands of those foreign companies whether we are inside the EU or outside the EU.

The worst thing about Brexit is it will enable the far right and the racists who think they can say what they want.

Good comments Matt and re the issue of foreign ownership, add in land and property wealth to that criticism as well! I've never taken the time to study the extent of this incursion into our national assets on a grand scale but I know it is massive from just studying little snippets now n again in the Financial Times discussions and business articles.

Well, blow me - there are some people out there who actually "see the light" but where are all these people who need to "see the light" re the massive impending economic damage, and other extreme implications, that is eventually gonna be incurred by Brexit activities!!?

I would imagine that the proper wording should be completed, not done!! Brexit will not be complete until a trade deal and other terms are negotiated and agreed, and that will be at the end of the year.
