Only 45% of the Scottish electorate voted for the SNP, as the only party totally in favour of independence would that figure translate to a 55%-45% majority to remain in the Union?? You are right, the population need to be behind this and maybe thats why Nicola is taking her time and making sure that any referendum will absolutely produce the result she wants, because with only 45% of the vote in the last election that might not currently be the case.

total spite. mark my words boris is going to dilute the few powers that holyrood has.

Lets have a big massive fight about the budget, seeing as they are f###### us about down in Westminster/Whitehall!!!
The Scottish government could create a budget for Scotland based on the monies accrued by Westminster from Scotland over the past twelve months and send it in to them down south to cough up and pay for it or they can go and piss off.
That ought to create a stir and doubtlessly some very alarming reactions across the board eh!! I think the time has come "to take the gloves off" although I'm sure the SNP and Nicola would utter caution and patience. Just under 90k heroes/heroines marching for Scotindy in a Glesca rainstorm yesterday - stunning and the news of it suppressed as usual by the English RW media plus poor coverage AGAIN by the English Broadcasting Corporation!!!! Thumb down There was better press coverage of the event in the likes of The Netherlands and Belgium!!! We can't put up with this English colonialist shit for much longer TBF!!! F### them and f### the toff/bully boy private school British Establishment conspiracy to block us with any bullish excuse that the bastards can dream up!!

I think you need to tone the language down a bit. We all understand that you are passionate about this topic but you do need to be careful what you say.

Hey Matt!!! Are there any inaccuracies in what is being said in my thread?????? Of course I'm passionate re a situation in my country which is starting to become extremely irritating and the disrespect and silly inciting comments emanating from the usual toffee-nosed "suspects"/apologists for a failed Westminster political system are becoming even more irritating than before. I, and lots n lots of other decent Scottish citizens all over the country, have really had a "bellyful" of this colonialist bullshit as it continues into the 2020s with a massive conspiracy from the Westminster unionists to block any attempts for the Scottish people to move for Scotindy - it is an absolute disgrace and as undemocratic as it gets from a bunch of fascist bastards with no scruples whatsoever and should have no say in deciding if the Scot govt decides to stage a referendum as part of an approved mandate on the subject!!
You can have them, they are not my respected govt and never will be!! I can't even say it is the same of the same British/Tory govt shit because it is gonna get much worse and that is even more alarming!!!

Nicola did indeed previously say that the she wanted certainty of success before any referendum is staged by the Scot govt. The 2019 GE turnout in Scotland was a healthy 68.6% out of an approx voting population of 4M. Note for info the Tory/Brexit Party had a lower 43% vote to win their majority status. Also note the Scot Greens support Scotindy as well. On a more positive note, I must reflect back in political history to the Scottish Covenant that was set up in 1949 by a legendary Scot socialist, John McCormick - a petition for home rule that was signed by over 2M Scots and sent to the British govt that of course dismissed it out of hand. McCormick, a barrister, was ostracised and blacklisted by the British state from ever practising in law, much like the witch hunt of any known communists. However, that "spark" for a Scot Parliament resurrected itself again in 1979 but this time blocked by a min vote turnout requirement even though the Scottish vote backed it this time. The quest for Scotindy has evolved from our first SNP MPs being terrorised by the British state with secret service involvement and being treated as "enemies of the state". That evolution has continued positively past 2000 with a devolved Scot govt in place and being well supported by the Scottish populace while successive British govts still can't "get to grips" with this constitutional change and the fact a non-unionist SNP govt is now well established in the Scot Parliament and is governing in a progressive, all inclusive way. Now we are on the cusp of a surge towards Scotindy, a massive achievement well over half a century from that historical moment when McCormick made that political move to establish a Scottish Covenant through the Scottish Assembly. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE AS MANY ANTAGONISTIC BRITISH GOVTS AND VITRIOLIC UNIONIST OPPONENTS HAVE COME AND GONE UP TO THE PRESENT DAY!!

I think a lot of Scottish labour voters are thinking again now - 'Scotland as a region of a British unitary state' isn't doing them any favours. Last indie referendum we got the choice of shutting up or xxxx off and now boris is carrying out the first choice. How much longer can the people put up with that shit?

To be clear: the regime in London is the enemy of every single one of the constituent parts of the UK of GB&NI. Scotland just has clearer sight of their intentions than England or Wales. Why ? Because they elected a parliament in 2016 that voted for another referendum.

Exactly right Jim and the old post election unionist/Tory f### off line, when Scottish voters previously voted unsuccessfully for a mainstream "unionist" party like Labour, does not apply any more because Scot Labour is finished up here as the population voted in the recent GE for a STOP BORIS, STOP BREXIT, CHOOSE SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE SNP mandate and the Tories played their opposite card (plus vote to "shut up" Nicola Sturgeon) and they were "blown away" - they are non-entities in Scotland and they know it!!! They are blatantly undemocratic c#### and they f####### well know it!! A good example of their shit heid behaviour was a pre-election comment by that wealthy moronic Sec of State for Scotland, Alister Jack, who professed that if there was a majority victory for the SNP in the Dec GE then there would be rightful justification for the Scottish govt to stage another indy referendum. The bastard totally changed his stance at the weekend when he expressed total opposition to what he previously said in December - HE BELIEVED THAT THE SNP WOULDN'T ATTAIN A LANDSLIDE VICTORY OR DECIMATE HIS SCOTTISH TORY PARTY SEATS!!! Hence the shameless, "moving of the goal posts" again!! An "enemy of Scotland" exposed!!!!! Thumb down  19th century Irish nationalist, Charles Stewart Parnell, famously noted that, "no man has the right to fix the boundary of a nation" and "no man has the right to say to his country, Thus far shalt thou go and no further". How appropriate that statement is in this context!!!

I'm not getting involved in this.

What I'm saying is just tone down the language because Post #277 could come across as inciting violence.

You also say "We can't put up with this English colonialist shit for much longer TBF!!! F### them and f### the toff/bully boy private school British Establishment conspiracy to block us with any bullish excuse that the bastards can dream up!!". You are aiming your anger at the wrong people. You should be angry with the Government and the Tory party not aiming your anger at people who are English.

Today confirms that we no longer live in a voluntary union.... if the will of both our electorate and the Scottish Parliament to have a referendum on independence is to be ignored then that opens up a whole can of worms. Its saying we are basically just a colony with our votes counting for nothing.

It could get ugly, but I hope not. I suspect that's what the eton twat is hoping for.

But there wasn't a majority victory for the SNP in the last election!! Our first past the post system meant they were the top party in 48 constituencies but that won't apply to a referendum. If the SNP want to use the 2019 GE as the springboard for another referendum then they really needed to get more than 50% of the total vote and as I said I think that is what has caused Nicola to soften her rhetoric with regards to another referendum. I know Brexit was an all encompassing topic in the GE but even with that backdrop and the mood you describe in Scotland, that magical 50% mark wasn't reached by the SNP.
