So we have only 12 years to limit a climate change catastrophe! What do we do as a nation? Do a "Trump" and poo poo the warnings in the name of his "good old capitalist buddies" many of whom "screw the planet" for everything they can get because they've been traditionally doing it for "donkey's years"!? Or do we do something about it and view it as an opportunity to practise differently? In Scotland itself do businesses and communities "partner up" to seriously share this message together with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency? In other words, profitability has environmental pre-requisites attached to it. Indeed, perhaps Corbyn's "socialist solution" becomes not so far-fetched as many people in England seem to think it is. When one looks "closer to home" we are all culpable "to a degree" in the way that we "go about our business" in travelling, heating our homes, and generally trying to save energy and cut emissions. Of course, as a country our contribution to any "global action plan" is a mere "drop in the ocean" but there are many other serious global contributors to the same cause of limiting global warming to 1.5°C by 2030. However, other nations must be drawn in to a "united front", esp the ones who are practising negatively! Could there be environmental warfare in future years? If it suddenly becomes reality, IMO who knows where such a crisis could take us!! Maybe we should start by putting a stop to the deforestation of the rain forests in S America and SE Asia!?

We certainly can't depend on politicians and businesses to save the world because of their too many vested interests.

And we certainly have no chance of individuals saving the planet either. We like our consumer society - when something breaks/wears out, don't get it repaired, just buy another one; we must have vegetables and fruit out of season, pushing up transport costs and pollution; we must have the latest fashion or mobile, who cares about the energy cost of production?: All generalisations, but you get the idea.

It's not pessimism, it's realism. Accept global warming as a way of life, embrace it and use it to any advantage possible. It's already too late for anything else.

IMO it's never too late ritchie but it needs "special people" to "break down the barriers" - great orators, true leaders of people, humanists and directors of a "new way ahead" until the human flow towards a realism that is no "kid on" becomes an absolute flood! Our kids, grand children and great grand children may well depend on this "revolution" more than we'll ever realise.

I hope you're right, 0762, but the damage has already been done. It's much like plastic pollution in the oceans and rivers. It's not enough to reach a neutral position, we need to reverse the damage. Like it or not, we're a consumer-led, throwaway society and it'll be extremely difficult at best to change attitudes.

Talking of great people to "lead the charge" and radically "change attitudes", it is good to see SDA at the forefront of the UN campaign to force the change that is required.
