Interesting from Spanish foreign minister to @politico on whether independent Scotland would get into EU: "Why not, if they leave Britain in accordance with their internal regulations?”

Added: "I think the United Kingdom will split apart before Spain"

Quite.

That's currently a fairly logical conclusion TBH although hypocritical if one considers the disgraceful antagonistic policy that the Spanish state has practised against the Catalan independence movement and ex Catalan govt officials who are now imprisoned.

That is the Spanish governments way of making a point to the Catalans. The key part of that statement is “in accordance with their internal regulations”. So far any Scottish independence movement has done just this, worked within the framework set by the UK as a whole entity. Hasn’t yet enabled independence but its probably only a matter of time, especially post-Brexit. The Spanish governments view is that the Catalan movement has not followed the rules set up in under Spanish law, which is pretty much true with regards to the vote they had. If Catalan wants independence then they will have to follow the rules, change them from within like Scotland did to give them a better chance and a framework to gain independence, then they can hold a proper vote and let the people decide. If they go against the Spanish laws they will never win a clean and just independence.

The key takeaway from that statement is that the Spanish government wont be any more anti-independence of Scotland than the UK gov.

Aye! And the Catalans can effectively #### off eh! I notice the Spanish govt appears to have influenced/infiltrated their judiciary to impose their will on the forthcoming trial of the already imprisoned Catalan govt officials. Disgraceful if true and the continued antagonism against the peaceful Catalan indy movement, who will be tested in the extreme, is outrageous, undemocratic and unacceptable in a civilised society. One can see why an oppressed people and their leaders can finally "break open the arms caches" and fight for their self-determination! I wish them well in the face of this continuous antagonism to "pull a response" as we've observed these crass tactics in history and in fact in more recent times in certain unstable countries!! They have stuck by a peaceful resolve to gain self-determination but they are facing Fascist opponents with a nasty, antagonistic policy to repress the movement at every opportunity.

This is a great piece of reporting by Farquarson that "blows away" the reputation and credibility of the Scottish Tories, Davidson ,Mundell et al who I (and many millions of Scots) personally never rated anyway, well sussed out years ago - all political opportunists and Mundell particularly IMO "waiting for his royal gong"!!! The little union flag flying bastard!! It is a great read that exposes them the con that they are and, more noticeably, from a Tory Times source.

They have used the fishing industry in Scotland shamelessly for their own ends. But they will wake up eventually.

Scottish fishing industry 70% (whitefish) and 85% (shellfish) reliant on chilled, live exports overnight to the EU. This is impossible on WTO and no deal terms and will place Scotland at a huge disadvantage to Norway (EFTA) who have preferential tariffs.

Shetland alone lands more fish than all off England and wales combined from UK vessels.

In the wake of this latest brexit fiasco, here's a novel "sales pitch" for Scottish Independence - "If Scotland chooses to join the EU,we'll have the same trade deal with England as the EU will have, plus all of the EU trade deals that Brexit England won't have". Scotland - big enough, rich enough, smart enough - VOTE YES FOR INDEPENDENCE! To any Scot "sitting on the fence" - tell your friends, spread the word!

I've just been updating myself on the info re the latest UK gov incursion against the Scot gov's unanimously backed Brexit Continuity Bill through the UK Supreme Court. In effect, it doesn't matter that it was within Holyrood's powers when MSPs passed it - as a result of the delaying tactics and chicanery of the UK govt, the power has been grabbed because Westminster "sneaked out" its own Brexit Witdrawal Bill which the "purring Queen" signed tout de suite and it amended the Scotland Act i.e. Holyrood didn't have power to amend the EU (Withdrawal) Act 2018. The UK gov used a legal delay/ploy to grab power even though the Supreme Court effectively "nuked" the Scottish Tory position. There is a simple Scottish word to describe this - "Sleekit"! So we have a British govt that is incapable of meaningful negotiation, unable to win on the substantive constitutional arguments!!! With this fragmented British govt, all that's left is force and guile! I scoff at that old insulting unionist and "better together" comment/jibe that Scotland is an equal partner!!! That is not the case and any self-respecting Scot must read this whole story to appreciate what has been "pulled" on a Scot govt that has rightly wanted the powers to deal with the "mess" after Brexit - powers that would've automatically empowered the Scot govt to flex its legislative muscles in fields historically regulated by EU law such as fisheries, farming and environment!!! Remember that infamous "vow" uttered by the "three stooges" - utter shameless shite and BRING ON SCOT INDY AS SOON AS PRACTICAL!!
Lastly the Presiding Officer, Ken Macintosh, should resign as insinuated in this article re his supportive and partial role in allowing the British govt and unionist media to initiate this crass move because of his highly questionable initial action/view on the Continuity Bill!

This latest poll leads me to issue an informal notice that should've been done months ago: WANTED: A REAL OPPOSITION!!!
So we have a totally fragmented Tory party, one of the worst and poorly led govts in British political history and an opposition that cannot overhaul this Tory rabble with all the "ammunition" that they now have to "shoot them down". It just leads to my common hope to BRING ON SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE AS SOON AS PRACTICAL and finally get away from this shit!! We are better than this and we have a govt that is far more competent and better than this crap and requires to be fully empowered!
