Its not just the wages, most of our deadwood is getting on a bit and the way Carlos treated injuries, or more importantly the way he rushed players back means that the likes of Abdi, Fletcher and Matias have spent more time injured. There is no chance of any club paying to take these players from us and even if we offered them for free the wages wouldn't be matched.

The four Million we spent on Abdi makes me shudder, I can only imagine how much this comes to after two years stealing a wage.

I'm not convinced we did spend that much on Abdi, from memory wasn't he part of the package deal that saw us get Pudil as well? I think Pudil was who we really wanted and had to take Abdi as part of the deal. At the time I seem to remember most thought it was a good move anyway, and no one could have predicted the injury problems. But with Abdi I really don't see a desire on his behalf to get fit and back in the team, whereas I have always thought Matias has fought hard despite the set back to get back playing and he has been visibly gutted on a couple of times when he has broken down during games, I think of the 2 Abdi is the one stealing a wage!!!

Not too sure either, I could have sworn it was a 3-4M signing.. I agree with the latter, Abdi is completely apathetic, and won't be on a low wage.
This is something we've discussed numerous times.

I think the QPR situation was why the EFL changed the rules and the powers they had to punish teams who overspend. Its no longer called FFP for starters but think its called Profit and Sustainability now. The key change is any club looking like they will be close to the 39m limit in the next couple of seasons has to provide a plan to the EFL outlining what they are going to do so that they do not exceed the limit. If they deviate from that plan too far by splashing cash that will obviously send them over then the EFL will allow the transfer but will not allow the player to be registered and therefore he is unable to play until the club show how they are going to pay for him. Its like a behind the scenes embargo and its designed to prevent teams from spending money, winning promotion and then being out of reach of the EFL. A lot think this is where we are at, we need to show we are serious about reducing our wage bill, which we have done to some degree, before we can go out and sign any players.
For those who haven't heard it The Wednesday Week recently did a good review of where we are with regards to this and what our likely actions have to be, well worth listening to.
