Sunderland AFC has agreed a deal to sign Alim Ozturk, who recently left Turkish side Boluspor.

The centre-back will formally join the Black Cats on July 1, in a two-year deal.

A former Turkish under 21 international who was born in the Netherlands, Ozturk began his career at Dutch side SC Cambuur, before moving to Trabzonspor.

The 25-year-old then made the move to Scottish side Heart of Midlothian, spending three years at the club, during which time he was awarded the captain’s armband.

He returned to Turkish football in January 2017, signing an eighteen-month deal with Boluspor.

Speaking about the player, Jack Ross said: “He is someone who I know – I worked with him a few years ago at Hearts. He is a player who is yet to reach his full potential, but this opportunity here gives him the chance to do that.

“He is a really good player and he will be able to cope with the physical demands of this league. He is really comfortable on the ball and I think the supporters will see that. He is excited by the opportunity to come here and he wants to do well so that fits perfectly in to what we are trying to do here moving forward.”

Jon McLaughlin, who enjoyed an outstanding season with Hearts, has joined Sunderland on a two-year deal.

The 30-year-old was a free agent and becomes new Sunderland manager Jack Ross’ second summer signing, joining another former Tynecastle player, Alim Ozturk, at the Stadium of Light.

McLaughlin’s form last season saw him earn international recognition and he won his first Scotland cap in the friendly international against Mexico earlier this month.

Bury Football Club can confirm that Chris Maguire has left the Club to join Sunderland.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder arrived at the Club last summer on a free transfer after leaving Oxford United.

He made 29 appearances for the Shakers last season, scoring twice.

Sunderland forward Wahbi Khazri has agreed personal terms with Saint-Etienne.

The 27-year-old is ready to leave the League One club this summer after spending last season on loan at Rennes.

The French club had tried to keep hold of the Tunisian, but they failed to agree personal terms with him.

Instead, according to L’Equipe, Khazri has given the green light to a move to Saint-Etienne.

The Ligue 1 club are now negotiating a fee with Sunderland and a deal could be wrapped up by the start of July.

SUNDERLAND have completed the signing of left-back Reece James on a free transfer.

James, who was released by Wigan Athletic at the end of last season, has signed a one-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

The 24-year-old spent three years with Wigan, during which time he helped the club win two League One titles.

He made 28 appearances for the Latics last season, as Paul Cook’s side pipped rivals Blackburn Rovers to the third-tier title and sealed an instant return to the Championship.

The defender becomes Jack Ross’ sixth summer signing, joining Alim Ozturk, Jon McLaughlin, Chris Maguire, Tom Flanagan and Dylan McGeouch at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland AFC has completed the signing of youth player Jordan Hunter.

The midfielder arrives at the Stadium of Light, signing on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool following the end of the 2017-18 season.

Hunter, 18, will join up Elliott Dickman’s under-23s, as the development side’s pre-season continues.

Upon arriving at the Academy of Light the youngster couldn’t hide his delight: "I’m so excited to be here, I really can’t wait to get started.

"I’ve met a few of the lads already and I was straight into training this morning, it’s been a real whirlwind," he added.

"I’m hoping to do well for the under-23s this season and I’d like to eventually push on and give Jack Ross something to think about when he comes to picking the team."

Swansea have had a bid accepted for 19-year-old Sunderland winger Joel Asoro.

The Sweden Under-21 player has one year left on his current deal and it is believed a fee of around £2m is the price for the Black Cats to let him go.

Asoro joined Sunderland from Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna in 2015.

New Swansea manager Graham Potter is a long-time admirer of the player from his time in charge of Ostersunds FK and Asoro would be his first signing since becoming boss at the Liberty Stadium.

Asoro made 29 appearances for the Black Cats last season, scoring three goals.

Sunderland have completed the signing of former Everton and Swansea City youth defender Jack Bainbridge.

The 20-year-old joins on a free transfer from the Liberty Stadium, and will link up with the under-23 side under the guidance of Elliott Dickman.

Bainbridge started his career with the Toffees, signing as a 14-year-old, progressing his way through the youth ranks at under-18 and under-23 level before making the switch to Wales in August 2017.

The centre-half failed to make a first-team appearance for the Swans but was a regular for their under-23 side last season in the Checkatrade Trophy and Premier League 2.

SUNDERLAND have agreed a deal for George Evans, and are hoping to make the Reading midfielder their seventh summer signing in the next 24 hours.

Reading have accepted Sunderland’s offer for Evans, with the Black Cats set to pay around £250,000 to land the 23-year-old defensive midfielder.

Evans is currently in Austria, where Reading’s first-team squad are on a pre-season training camp, but is expected to travel to Wearside later today to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms
