Sign up now for the great World Cup predictions game.
Played along the same lines as the HTFC predictions game, ie Terrier1987Cas wins it. Although, a couple of years ago when we did the Euros, the winner was Shep, who beat JASOG in the final, a dramatic 6-6 draw that was settled by the tie breaker of who predicted the closest to the number of corners.
We will put scorers down for the England matches. If you want to put scorers for other matches you can of course use the random badger
For the benefit of new players who haven't seen our game before, the random badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really.
Also for those of you who haven't played before, the joker is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.
2 points for a correct result
4 points for a correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Joker doubles your score
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points
Knockout games games: In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties.
Groups: Spireitematt came up with the idea of playing in a group format last time, and it seemed to work out well, so we'll do that again, if enough of you sign up to play that is. If we do, we'll do it in 4 groups again, randomly drawn by my good lady wife.
The Group stages will have 4 Matchdays, 3 from the WC Group stage and then the Round of 16:
Matchday 1: Thurs 14th June to Tues 19th June
Matchday 2: Weds 20th June to Sunday 24th June
Matchday 3: Mon 25th June to Thurs 28th June
Matchday 4: Sat 30th June to Tues 3rd July
At this stage, the top two in each group will go through to the quarter finals and the others in each group will be eliminated. That draw will be as such:
QF1 - Winner Group A v Runner up Group B
QF2 - Win B v RU A
QF3 - Win C v RU D
QF4 - Win D v RU C
Predicting for Matchday 5:
The WC QFs on Fri 6th July and Sat 7th July
Then the semis:
QF1 v QF3
QF2 v QF4
Predicting for Matchday 6:
The WC SFs on Tues 10th July and Weds 11th July
And then of course the final on Sunday 15th July which will be played as follows:
The score of the final (4 pts correct score, 2 pts correct result as usual)
5 names to score (2 pts for each one correct)
5 names to get a yellow card (2 pts for each one correct)
A random badger (optional) (2 pts)
A joker (optional) (2 pts correct, minus 2 if wrong, as usual)
Total number of corners as a tie breaker
Entry is open to anybody. The prize for winning is a much merited and sought after Sportsbabble reputation point.
