Well this is the start of the formal process of electioneering and it is being opined that the race between pro fascist Spain backers and indy voters is 'neck and neck'! I don't believe that but maybe I am wrong. I wanna see the Spanish govt and PM Rajoy 'given a bloody nose' after their extreme response of persecution where some Catalan gov officials are still incarcerated - absolutely disgraceful, an affront to democratic principles and I hope the majority of the Catalan voting population 'tell them where to go' in no uncertain terms. Also I hope that UN and EU assigned observers are on hand to monitor the election/voting process because I fear that this Spanish govt is going to apply underhand tactics again to gain a voting advantage - IMO they are desperate and the Catalan indy movement is still strong and well backed!! I must also comment on the political 'silence', particularly from the EU, re the situation in Catalonia. This is one of the biggest regions in Europe and the muzzling of certain 'normally interested EU institutions' is absolutely outrageous! That is why all other nations really have a duty to speak up on their behalf. In Scotland, in the UK and in Europe we are supposed to live in democracies which champion feeedom of speech. The second we deny someone the right to freedom of speech is the moment we have to question whether we do live in a democracy. I recently viewed our British PM welcoming that fascist Rajoy on his visit to No 10 Downing Street. That would not happen retrospectively in Scotland - no way and rightly so!!

A week ago, about 45k supporters of Catalan independence amazingly turned up in Brussels to back their beleaguered PM, Puigdemont, and cheerily demonstrated for Catalan indy and I pondered, 'What did they achieve'? It was indeed a great display of commitment and, as a Scot, I mused how amazing it would be if we could get 45k folk to go and demonstrate for Scot indy in Paisley or Aberdeen, never mind persuading them to go to Brussels to do it! However, in reality was this faith in the integrity of the EU ill judged by these Catalans? They were effectively snubbed again by the institutions and senior reps of the EU who are not just hostile to Catalan indy but they are actively working to thwart it! Shocking but true! IMO the Catalans are focused on building a common European home but they are failing to take account of the negative political evolution of the EU! This is something that many Scots have already grasped but many others need to wizen up too! Protecting their economic interests and the interests of Euro banks is clearly high on the list of doctrines that are favoured by the EU hierarchy. I'd add one extreme doctrine to EU practise and that is , 'We will turn a blind eye to human right violations if it suits us, esp in Spain'!! And yet the very foundation of post war moves to Euro unity was premised on the notion that Euro institutions had a legal right to interfere in states where human and civil rights were being abused! Changed days and note that Castilian Spanish has been re-imposed in the public administration of Catalonia after the Catalan parliament was deposed - absolutely outrageous and 'not a peep' of criticism uttered from EU leaders. I hope the Catalans succeed in the face of an orchestrated campaign by a desperate RW minority Spanish govt but they had better not expect much support from the EU!

Funny that the EU can barely stop mentioning the European Court of Justice most of the time, but as regards Catalunya the words Europe, Court and Justice have not passed any influential lips.
Apparently Spain will not be mentioned until Real Madrid meet Paris St Germain and everyone wants a ticket.

Its good to see other 'observers', throughout Europe and beyond, perceiving the same hypocrisy and self interest from within the EU.

Two more days to go before the vote it transpires that Rajoy's political party, Partido Popular, remains in last place based on regular opinion poll samples. It also looks like the various pro-indy parties could well gain the 68 seats from 135 to impose a majority representation - a 'tight call' all the same! One alarming feature of this democratic(?) election is the fact that Rajoy has refused to allow independent observers to monitor a free and fair election process - absolutely outrageous and it reeks of the antics of the worst unscrupulous governments in the likes of Africa!!!! But this is the action of an EU member state!!!??? It should be challenged by all and sundry particularly after the ludicrous extreme actions taken by the RW Spanish state on October 1 in the previous 'unlawful'(?) Catalan referendum for indy.

And breaking news from Catalonia - the pro-indy parties gain the required majority of 69+ seats to win the regional election!!! Deeeelighted!!! Former Catalan President, Puigdemont, 'rubbing Rajoy's nose in it' in his post election speech and demanding an apology for the unjust tactics previously employed by this minority RW Spanish govt, release the political prisoners, suspend Article 155 and reinstate the recognised govt/parliament, recognise the will of the Catalan people etc!! As predicted, the pro indy movement takes another giant step towards self-determination.
78 pro indy seats v 58 pro unity should justify another pro indy referendum - EU take note!

The reconvened Catalan parliament expected to announce the reinstatement/re-election of their forcefully deposed President, Carlos Puigdemont, today - a case of 'two fingers' to that extreme RW fascist Spanish PM, Rajoy, and lets see what this undemocratic c### 'dreams up' next after an illegal election IMO that still never worked out for him anyway!!?

Rajoy's response just confirms how democracy is corrupted to suit his own hypocritical agenda and Spain is not the only country that applies undemocratic measures that suit the narrow agenda of whatever unscrupulous govt wants to apply them - a shocker!

Guardiola fined by the FA for wearing the yellow ribbon and highlighting the fact that Catalan politicians have been imprisoned for over 5 months without any formal charge while politicians, worldwide, ignore this breach of democratic values! A political symbol? Well it is good to see the long established SNP symbol is being displayed by guys like Guardiola and other objectors in Spain and elsewhere!
