Did you expect Labour to get a majority? I'm a Labour member and I expected a hung parliament or small majority Tory government. May put party before country and it backfired, she didn't need to call an election. As for this free money, Labour's manifesto was fully costed and 130 economists and even Stephen Hawking backed Labour because we needed a different approach other than austerity. Only two countries who have austerity are Greece and us. After WW2 we had austerity and rationing but Germany got back on there feet quicker because they invested in manufacturing, jobs, housing, healthcare. As for Scotland and the SNP a 2nd Indy referendum has been blown into the water.

A 2nd Indy referendum blown into the water???? You wish!!! The Scottish 'block vote' held firm in Scotland and the SNP won the Scottish vote by a country mile - the SNP still hold more seats than all the opposing parties put together + all SNP votes counted (a huge significant proportion of total votes!) tell me a 2nd Indy ref is alive n kicking but 'patience is a virtue' and the formal conclusion of the Brexit negotiations/cock up will be the 'spark' to seriously activate Scot ref 2!! Also we're talking about a general election with lotsa different narratives attached to it and NOT a Scottish Election where lotsa voters who voted away from the SNP for various reasons yesterday still want an Indy Ref 2 and ultimately independence!! Being propped up by the most extreme political party in parliament - desperation comes to mind and May is a 'dead woman walking' TBF!! Sturgeon far more astute and up front even after a disappointing night when some SNP colleagues have lost their electoral seats. Indy Ref 2 is not dead, never will be because of the Scots who want away from England and will until the day they die. But for now it has been placed firmly on the back burner. The Scottish block vote didn't hold firm, 12 seats were lost to the Tories, in your words the worst government we have seen in many a decade and one that was supposed to be dead north of the border!! The SNP vote was down to 37% and while for sure if there was an indy vote that would certainly change it hardly gives the SNP any mandate on the national level to push for a new referendum. Nicola will bide her time I am sure, just like Corbyn will in the UK as a whole, and they will wait to see what transpires in the coming months, but for now that is essentially all they can do!!

As regards the Tory/DUP alliance, to be fair that alliance has always been there, isn't it the case that the DUP have always voted on Tory lines?? It gives them a majority and while it stands firm the other parties do not have the number of seats to govern even if Sinn Fein were to take their seats!!

Technically Tories have a 1 seat majority given the Irish and Speaker seats so it may be difficult for Corbyn considering Tiny Tim has said no. One thing wonder how the 170 MP's who wanted him gone are thinking today.

The dups views on abortion,homosexuality and welfare cuts are at odds with the tories. This might be a very uncomfortable partnership at times. They want a very soft brexit too,none of this "no deal is better than a bad deal' pish for them.

May really needs to go,she is totally isolated and hated by her party who behind the scenes are deeply unhappy with that campaign and how may underestimated corbyn.

There probably thinking if they had got behind him and backed him they would probably have a small majority. If or when another election is called Labour could win but they will need to build on this. Also if Labour do want to win they will need to write a manifesto similar to this one with one or two changes.

Jim, can't say I know much about the DUP, nor what they support or don't support. Obviously in the past their support has been useful but not really needed due to the Tory majority, now they actually have been handed some power and say in things and it will be interesting to see what they do with that and if they get anywhere near what they want. May has no mandate now to go for the hard brexit, she will have to soften the stance on that, if she survives at all!!

The SNP will learn lessons, regroup and become stronger Jim. Remember this was a general election and not a Scottish one. It was also full of different testy narratives like the 'Corbyn factor' and the usual 'allied unionist line' that swayed many voters up here as well as tactical voting 'to stop the SNP'. IMO the high numbers of Scottish voters who unforgivably voted for a toxic Tory brand in certain regions 'beggars belief' TBF! The most interesting stat for me was the fact over 70% of Scottish voters opted for centre left parties with the toerags prob hitting a max vote that they will never emulate again and indeed it was ironically part of a failed UK govt attempt to gain an overall majority - two fingers to that one and Davidson's post election snide remarks!! And btw Saint Charles Owl the Scottish block vote, the solid unswaying core vote for the SNP, did hold firm contrary to what you said in your last thread and the SNP still won the backing of the Scottish electorate 'by a country mile'. Recheck the results if you wish but that was the final state of play and thank god for that albeit a tad disappointing!
