Cruella calls a General Election for June!! Tory chancers at work again!!!!

My only concern Jim is that the Tories 'north of the border' poss gain a couple of extra seats and start calling it some kinda victory, which it aint. I wanna see that Tory 'chancer', Davidson, blown away by an SNP whirlwind together with that other SNLP embarrassment, Dugdale. I notice that all allied unionist political parties are using their anti Scot Indy 2 stance in their leafleting for the Scottish local elections - absolutely outrageous and the referendum issue should not even be mentioned in the local elections because it's irrelevant MO!!!

Too many on this thread are saying the Tories have got it sewn up. Ignore the polls. The polls got it wrong in the 2015 General Election, they got it wrong in the EU Referendum and the polls got it wrong in the US Presidential election. If people ignore the right wing media and ignore the polls and vote on policies and remember what the Tories have done in the last 7 years then the Tories wouldn't be anywhere near a majority. The polls and right wing media have far too much influence on how people vote in this country.

We've had 7 years of a Tory Government and in those 7 years its been austerity for the poor and tax cuts for the top 1%. They introduced the bedroom tax, millions turned to foodbanks because they had there benefits cut and couldn't afford to feed themselves or there families. The NHS is in crisis, operations being cancelled, Doctors and Nurses being worked to the bone for little pay and patient's left on trolleys in the middle of corridors. They've introduced more zero hour contracts which means there's no job security or workers rights for employees. They tripled tuition fees for students which means students have a £30k plus debt over them before they start work, before they have a mortgage, before they start a family. They raised the pension ages up and many women born in the 1950s will have to work longer as a result, child poverty has gone up, waiting times in A&E have gone up. Energy Prices have risen, food prices have gone up, private rents have gone up, cuts to disability benefits, a housing crisis, sold off the Royal Mail and other National assets, fewer Doctors, fewer Nurses, fewer firefighters, fewer teachers and fewer Police officers. While MPs got a pay increase. Is it fair? NO IT BLOODY ISN'T!!!

And what are the Tories doing? Saying bloody soundbites under Cameron it was. "Long Term Economic Plan". Under May its. "Strong and Stable Leadership". And what does it mean? SOD ALL. It means nothing to those out there trying to make ends meet.

RANT OVER!!

Good comments spiretematt. As Corbyn scathingly commented today in parliament - the Tories target the weak and 'take care of their own people'! He's right! Another good example of Tory shit is their education reform to school provision that actually provides good, free education to their own people/backers, many of whom can't afford private education any more but they are trying to dupe many critics of the intro of grammar schools etc that such provision will provide for less well off kids - utter crap and they should be seriously challenged on a lotta these issues by good people in politics and on the streets! As for the blanket pro Tory media propaganda in a so called democratic society - it's a f###### joke and I wish many voters in England would wisen up to the stuff that you've highlighted and more!! I notice that a newly formed vetting agency, FERRET, has been set up to check and expose 'fake info' in media and politics! It's long overdue, I hope it's officials/checkers are fully impartial and it is effective in taking measures against offenders as well as exposing them with the real facts/truth.

Good comments spireitematt, and generally i would much prefer a labour government even if corbyn isn't exactly a good leader. If i lived in England I'd overlook that "hold my nose" and vote labour. Simply because they would put ordinary people first.

However England and wales are leaning to the right, and in Scotland the labour vote has moved to independence. For what its worth on independence and freed from WM i think Scottish labour would become the main party again.

Give dugdale her due,she was brilliant in that rape clause debate in the Scottish parliament. I think she is a nice enough lassie, just a hopeless leader.

IMO she should've resigned with Jim Murphy when it was suggested that she 'falls on her sword' in 2015. Nothing has changed in that regard and I notice that Wings over Scotland has their Kezia 'false info/exaggeration' checker on number 630+.

Looking in from afar, it seems to me that the major topic in this election is Brexit. With all the main parties appearing to be campaigning on the assumption that irrespective of who wins, Brexit will go ahead, then this might simply come down to which party (or leader of a party) is perceived to be better at guiding the country through the negotiations over the next two years. Normally that would involved picking the good points about the respective leaders and making a decision, but this year its going to be about who you definitely do not trust to lead the country through this. And for me this is where Labour will fail because as Jim said "Corbyn isn't exactly a good leader" and I cannot see enough voters switching to them and giving him control of our exit from the EU!! I think more people will hold their noses and vote Tory because of this lack of faith in Corbyn.

To be fair though may isn't a very good leader either. For all the tories witter on about being strong and stable, what's stable about a government who's prime minister quit over a referendum recently and ever since its been u turn after u turn.

Labour are quite right to try and move the dialogue away from brexit. There are far more important issues. They should be hammering the points that spirite mentioned every day. I note today they have made a 4 point gain on the tories,so maybe its working.

Labours biggest problem is they aren't in line with older Britons concerns. Pensions, security and keeping the foreigners out.

No, this election may come down to the lesser of two evils if Brexit remains the topic of conversation!!

Brexit is and always was a false construct. The tories do not have a plan ffs.

The real reason for brexit is the tories mismanagement of the UK,which somehow they managed to blame on the EU. Its all moot anyway,as we've pointed out at length the EU hold all the cards in this one. Undeniably so.
