He is a South American so he will be on his way to China if any truth at all in this, they seem to be bidding on every South American striker on the planet at the moment. Probably more likely his agent is trying to create interest in China though.

I do wonder, if you think about it, why would the Chinese be paying prices and offering wages beyond most clubs outside China for the quality of player in question.

The only logic I can put on it is that their aim is to focus almost totally on receipts from T.V viewers. If that is the goal, it makes a lot of sense to look firstly to players from the second most populous area, then plug your league across South America as well as China. Selling it on the basis of it containing so many players from that area.

To put it into context the combined population of Europe is around 743 million. The combined population of China and South America 1.783 billion.

Baggieman, what ifs are not worth pondering, you can only comment on the events that have happened, a lot of strikers that we have released have gone on good scoring runs but none of them are in the premier league. The decisions we have made, the players we have released have not affected our top flight status, he was not performing at this level with us, could he would he, unless he actually performs in this division, then our decision was right.

Scoring for fun in the championship is not scoring against top class international defenders in the premier league.

4Eva, I think you're right. I thought Woods always looked decent for us but he was not someone who, at the time, you would have considered as our starting 9. Whether he would have developed into that position, who knows but I suspect he wanted regular football and we couldn't give him that. I think he's a good player but, as you say, there have been many prolific strikers in the Championship who couldn't perform at the same level in the PL

I'd let him go in June if that's what they're offering. I like his sportsmanship and his effort; he works his arse off; and he's a real handful to play against, but
a) his first touch is very poor (does he wear tin shinpads?)
b) he's not a natural finisher, and his goals record reflects that (although he doesn't get the type of service Jeff Astle used to get!)

I know strikers are in big demand, but for £30m+ I'm sure we can do better if Nick Hammond and his team start to earn their corn.
