2016/17 (Jan 30 Update) WBA January Transfer Window
I hope he does well but let's not forget we tried to sign him when he was leaving Portsmouth but he decided to go to a 'bigger club' (I'm sure that was his so called quote at the time)in Stoke.

Anyway , I hope he does well for us.

.....maybe we ARE a "bigger club" these days?

(OK - maybe he just wants game time, which he wasn't getting at Bournemouth Confused.)

I agree that we really needed to also add a striker, but with a bit of luck we can steer clear of injuries, finish the season as we're doing now and recruit sensibly and more universally in the summer. I do see this loan signing as a goodun that will increase our resilience

Well, there we go then - the end of yet another frustratingly shitty window for the club. One mediocre permanent bench warming signing and one totally uninspiring loanee who can't even make the Bournemouth team.

Aspirations were high when it was reported we were putting in a £12m bid for Schniederlin and links with other top line players were rife. But no, it was the same old Baggies, do it one the cheap with little or no ambition.

What really makes me laugh is all these people saying January is a bad time to buy, wait till the summer window. What planet are they on ???  What makes them think it will be any differerent this summer to what it has always been every summer at the Baggies be it JP or the Chinese - do it on the cheap, make do with the scraps.

Yes, by the Grace of God, we're lying in 8th place on 33 points with a dangerously ageing and thin squad and it only needs a few long term injuries coupled with suspensions and we could drop like a stone. The swathes of empty seats are hardly going to be filled with inspired fans who listened to mixed messages coming from TP and the club.

Perhaps JP was right when he stated on TV that we "we are punching above our weight and in reality, we are a mid-table Championship club"

Disappointing

Blimey BaggieMan, looks like your glass is half empty AND cracked!
I do see what you mean - it HAS been the same old story for quite a few windows.......however, maybe all the other clubs have also cottoned on to the fact that this is a crap time to bring new players in - this window was amazingly quiet,  and so most teams around us and just below haven't "strengthened" either to any great degree. Status quo.
I'm amazed that we're on 32 points already with the squad we have - but I'm putting that down to positive stuff.....hard work, a splash of creativity, and -YES! - a good coach/manager.
Have faith oh BaggieMan - a great platform is there; but yup, it needs to be used well come the summer!

Difference is Drewks, if my glass was half empty I'd go to the bar and refill it and if it were cracked, I'd change it. Trouble is Drewks, the Baggies don't do that.

Worldclass, at the time we were a yoyo club, sjoke were slightly more established and therefore by definition a bigger club and a safer bet. We have since stabilised our position by no means established and by no means a permanent fixture but a safer bet. Won't quote on his lack of game time at a Bournemouth side also punching above their weight. I will give him a chance, he is younger and probably faster than our other options ....

It is hugely frustrating but with the money involved act I do not believe that incompetence or unwillingness to recruit is to blame here.

It's natural for fans to want to see their club buy new players but at the end of the day if the valuation on a player is set by the club at N and the selling club is asking for 2 or 3 times N then unless you are totally over a barrel there is no sense in buying that player.

It seems that we tried to buy and were either being over charged or were outbid (action style) by another more desperate club.

The loan of a defender is just good business sense in that it provides cover for a weakness and is only a commitment for a few more months.

I agree a striker was very important but again why over pay.

My comfort is in that, as said my Mourinho, clubs are researching players well in advance of a particular transfer window and Man Utd already know their targets for the summer - I am going to guess that we do as well and filling a place with a lesser player, even if a short term remedy, does not make sense.

After all we are not in danger of relegation and realistically will be a few points short of a European place even with an optomistic view on things.

Baggieman,

I think you are being a little harsh on the Albion, we were linked with top players and put in big bids for some, they chose to go to Everton, Southampton by the sea, our usual scouting for wet sham etc etc we will always have this competition, we are try to get to a bigger pond with bigger fish. We are making the right noises and a good league performance may improve future Windows, no owner, New money, baggieman, top up the other half of your glass and sing your heart out for the lads ......

Berbatov is in England and a free agent ..... any takers. Excuse the spelling.

I have to confess I tend more to Baggieman's sense of frustration. I fully agree that we should not buy players for the sake of it but it just seems that everything gets done at the last minute, it's as if we only twig that there's a transfer window open about 28th January. I know we were "associated" with players such as Schneiderlin but it must have pretty clear early on that that was not going to happen. We talk about Rodriguez for an eternity only to be told on the final day that Southampton were not going to sell, whilst we put in a token gesture enquiry for Callum Wilson one day before the window closes. If Pulis agrees that a striker is critical for us, that was obvious before January so why all the faffing about in January. If I had any confidence this coming summer transfer window will be different I'd feel better but experience tells me otherwise

Baggiesteve, we all share the frustration but this is not like buying a car that they want to sell, you are trying to buy a decent assest that they want to keep, more often than not you won't get the player .... it's difficult.
