2016/17 (Jan 30 Update) WBA January Transfer Window
The bottom line is that January is NOT a good time to be buying players. Clubs that are pushing for something, league, promotion etc. really won't want to be selling their better players (and why on Earth would they?). Clubs fighting relegation (or the threat of) also won't want to be selling players that may help them avoid the drop.
So what are you left with? As a general rule, players that can't get into their current squads or are frustrated 'bench warmers'.

We are already on 32 points and with plenty of winnable games to go with our current squad. Why the panic to pay-over-the-odds?

Crazy.

I do agree, Tidy, so why shout our mouths off we're going to bring 5 players in?

Ulloa bid from Sunderland £8m rejected.

I also said 5 players (including loans) - Livermore and 2 loans would be acceptable though.

I have no idea! Worryingly it sounds like a bit of 'gamesmanship' by Pulis. Would seem that the board had the final say!

Also, I'm not sure of the 5 areas of the squad that we could improve with players bought in January. I would much rather get ourselves 'safe' then have a look to see if Leko, Field etc. can make the step up and perhaps save ourselves £m's.

Tidy, that's a very fair point. My only issue with it is that Pulis seems to have no real interest in giving Leko, Field and other young players some game time but he'd rather stick MacLean on for the final 15 minutes, a player about whom he knows just about everything because what you see is what you get with him. The only position I'm concerned about is up front as we are very light there. Bringing in another striker in January would, I think, be helpful.

Marc Wilson (Bournemouth Defender) - apparently on his way (loan probably as he only recently was sold by Stoke)

I am not unhappy if we do not sign someone as I do feel this is a weird window to do business in but the loan of Marc Wilson does fuel the fire of the 'angry fans' on twitter Laugh

In a lengthy career, the Irishman has played for the likes of Portsmouth and Stoke City. Tony Pulis admitted earlier today that he would be surprised he the club purchased any players but that loans were a possibility.

Wilson looks to fit that bill and has the positive of being able to ply his trade in both midfield and defence. He left Stoke last year but to date has made just three appearances for the Cherries, none of which have come in the league. He’s made 25 appearances for the Republic of Ireland in his career, but missed out on the Euro 2016 squad after he was cut from the 35-man shortlist.

Trouble is Stairs, he's no feckin' good !

My Sjokie mates cheered when he was sold and the fact since then he's only played three times for the Cherries and was excluded from the RoI squad says it all. If he was that good, why would they loan him out?

I agree it's a confusing loan as TP suggested no additions unless they improve the squad - maybe there are injuries or other we don't know about and this is cheap cover - he is a utility man and so covers a few bases if we are in a spot. (grasping at straws here)

I am surprised we gave up on Snodgrass, and potentially he had what we are looking for as a player, and he scores goals.

I think he'd have been an asset to the squad. So why didn't we have a go for him? Anyone?
