Defender - Jozo Simunovic (Celtic)

Boring but predictable, Newcastle also linked - they will be for everything this summer - the new West Ham!

West Brom want to sign Sporting Lisbon and Portugal midfielder William Carvalho, 25, but face competition from Arsenal and Manchester City. (Daily Express).

Round and round again. DD Angry Angry

Lets face it Janssen is more likely than Carvalho.

We get linked with lots of £25-25m players by the gossip mongers and should not really get excited by them. Its obvious that the 'bigger', certain wealthier, clubs will step in at the last minute and be far more attractive to these players.

We need a Janssen or similar where the potential is there but the recent club career did not spark - these players have things to prove and have the ability in the locker.

I think you're spot on stairs - realistically most/all players with a £25m+ price tag are going to end up at bigger club than us ....... but that's what makes it great if we're able to spot a bargain and get (almost) just as a good a player for half the price! A big "if ", I know.
Personally I'm going to ignore all paper talk about these big money signings as they just ain't gonna happen

Tony Pulis is targeting “giant” Portuguese international William Carvalho to stop West Brom’s rot.

The eighth-placed Baggies’ season is fizzling out in disappointing fashion after four successive defeats without scoring.

Boss Pulis plans to strengthen his side in the summer with a spending spree to improve his small, ageing squad.

He went to watch the 1-1 Lisbon derby recently between Sporting and Benfica to cast his eye over Carvalho.

The 6ft 1in holding midfielder is rated at £25 m by Sporting after Albion unsuccessfully bid £20 m for him last summer.

Now Pulis is prepared to bid big bucks to get his man after a personal scouting mission.

Pulis admitted: “Carvalho is a giant, he is a big lad. You’ve got to believe your own eyes.

“You listen to so many people’s opinions and views on things that sometimes you don’t get a clear perspective. It’s really nice to watch games yourself.”

Angola-born Carvalho has 30 international caps after making his debut in 2013.

He played in the 2014 World Cup and helped Portugal win Euro 2016, including playing 120 minutes in the win over France in extra-time the final.

Under contract until 2020, Carvalho would add presence to an Albion midfield currently anchored by Claudio Yacob, who is 30 this summer.

Pulis also took in Porto against Feirense on the same weekend as he assessed the Portuguese game.

He added: “It was a good opportunity to see two very good teams, Benfica and Sporting, and actually go down and see Porto the next day.

“I enjoyed both games, obviously the Lisbon derby was a wonderful occasion and Porto, it was the first time I’ve been to the new ground and it was a really good team.

“It was good to see the standard of Portuguese football, they’re the best three teams over there.

“It was good to have a look at the standard and the pace of the game.

“They’re technically very good players, but the pace isn’t what it is in England.

“The physicality and everything else that makes this league such a great league is lacking a little bit, but there’s some very good technical players over there.”

IF we were to sign him, I think Fletcher would have more to worry about than Yacob.

Beefy's additional material re Carvalho proves my point to a certain extent.

TP has invested time and effort in reviewing the player. He has gone on record to say what a quality player and 'giant' he is. TP is highly respected by his peers and so they will take note and then look at the player themselves i.e. TP is scuppering any chance he has of stealing this player from under their noses by begging him up.

Not forgetting the club and agent will create a bidding war!

We do have money this time, it is reputed, and so maybe we can bid higher for the player - but so can others.

Like Drewks - I am not going to believe a word until the picture of the player holding an Albion shirt is unveiled

It's all a load of bowlocks! Paper and website talk that is cheap.

Like Stairs and Drewksie, I'm not believing any rumours until I see the bloke holding the shirt, sippin' Bovril and eatin' one of Elsie Ramsbottom's meat 'n potato pies up the Smethwck end. Till then it's double bowlocks.

Also wouldn't be at all surprised if we go through yet another negative window buying no bugger of significance just only cheap also rans.
