Nicola Sturgeon finally begins the process of separation!
Almost 17000 new Covid/Omicron infections in the past 24 hours. Not good and god only knows where it will take us. I'd like to know what the figure actually is for the Lothian area as there was a point in time initially when we had zero infections. Not so now.

1,293 new cases in Edinburgh in last 24 hours 9,815 active cases in Edinburgh up by 497 cases last week.

There's a new tipping point beginning to play out now. Number of hospitalisations versus number of hospital staff available to deal with them.

The hospitalisations are currently increasing, but we won't know the real trend until the second week in January. The number of daily deaths is decreasing but we won't know the real trend until the end of January.

Would expect the numbers to start coming down in the next few days/week, seem to have hit the peak now in Scotland, there are some encouriging signs.

I hope you're right. There have been about 189k new infections UK wide in the past 24 hours with 303 associated deaths, almost hitting the 200k mark although IMO it is not being managed right down south and a lotta people still following their own cautious rules of protection, far more stringent than what officials of the Brit govt are advising.

The next couple of weeks are going to be really important in terms of whether further restrictions will be needed or not.

Seem to be coming over the peak now, case numbers slowly dropping compared to last week's figures in Edinburgh, the problem appears to be more in other parts of Scotland where I think advice isn't being followed as such. I do however feel that with the restrictions we are prolonging the virus over a longer time.

I honestly believe we should get back to the FACTS advice from last summer to keep as safe as possible. It doesn't matter what politicians do or don't do - we can do it ourselves.

Parliaments being recalled, so expect we might see the isolation period lowered.

Scotland is probably about a week behind london currently, and signs its heading in the right direction now hopefully. But chaos when the schools go back is a given.

Restrictions getting lifted from the 17th, fans allowed back in grounds, case numbers dropping rapidly so I'd expect other restrictions to go pretty soon aswell.
