What a brilliant and compelling opening day even if our players performed pretty averagely.

The R2D adds an additional element to this tournament and the head to head between McIlroy & Willett was enthralling as they traded blow for blow. McIlroy chipped in at the final hole to nick a birdie when a bogey looked likely to keep them tied with each other.

Kaymer, Fraser, Poulter & Sullivan lead the way on six under but there are still over half the field in contention and invariably it is a top player who wins here. Sullivan has won three times this season & I think he has a great chance here. Branden Grace was probably the most impressive player today until he fell away over the closing holes. Stensen is out of it after throwing away five shots in three holes from the 15th.

Henrik Stenson 13/2 +5 Tied 58th

Victor Dubuisson 25/1 Level Tied 40th

Thomas Pieters 66/1 -3 Tied 14th

Kristoffer Broberg 80/1 -2 Tied 23rd

Rory McIlroy (Top Five) 11/10 -4 Tied 6th

Broberg was four under after seven but picked up an injury which hampered him badly and I suspect his chance has gone. We are pretty much in Pieters' hands plus our big bet on Rory for a Top Five finish.

Kevin Kisner leads on seven under after Day One but he has probably had the benefit of playing the easier Plantation Course first so we will have a better idea of standings after Round Two. All our players except MacKenzie (who was a bit of a punt) are still well in contention and all except Garnett get to play the Plantation course today. Hopefully we will have someone to cheer over the weekend.

Patton Kizzire 40/1 -2 Tied 63rd

Johnson Wagner 66/1 -5 Tied 10th

Brice Garnett 100/1 -2 Tied 63rd

Will MacKenzie 175/1 +1 Tied 131st

Football League Bets

Leeds v Rotherham

This should be a low corners match. Seven of Leeds' eight home matches have failed to reach 10.5 Corners at an average of 8.5 corners. Rotherham match up pretty well with all of their last five away matches failing to reach this line at an average of 8.6 corners. Bet TWO POINTS on Under 10.5 Corners at 4/5.

Scunthorpe v Bradford

This should be a low scoring game with seven of the Iron's eight home matched dropping short of 2.5 Goals. The Bantams match up pretty well with five of their last seven away matches also dropping short. Bet TWO POINTS on Under 2.5 Goals at 1.76.

Newport v Yeovil

Yeovil have been great for low corners in their away matches this season with seven of their eight matches going under the 10.5 Corner line. Newport are a decent match up with their last four home totals being 8-13-3-6. Happy to Bet TWO POINTS on Under 10.5 Corners at 4/5.

Good Luck

Another enthralling day with Sullivan leading the way on -12 but the big names are lining up behind. Sullivan, Reed & Grillo were outstanding but the big shadow of McIlroy is there, four shots off the lead. A great weekend ahead.
