The Pattonair County Cricket Ground (usually shortened to the County Ground and also known as the Racecourse Ground) is a cricket ground in Derby, England. It has been the home of Derbyshire County Cricket Club since 1871. The ground was first used by South Derbyshire Cricket Club in 1863 and was initially located within Derby Racecourse, although racing ceased after 1939. The ground has staged two One-Day Internationals: New Zealand against Sri Lanka during the 1983 World Cup and New Zealand against Pakistan during the 1999 World Cup. It was one of the venues for the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup.

The ground was also formerly used for football, and was the home of Derby County F.C. between 1884 and 1895. It staged the first ever FA Cup Final match played outside London, a replay of the 1886 Final, and hosted an international match between England and Ireland in 1895.

If it ever stops raining by Monday we play a much improved Derbyshire side who at the present are trying to beat Glamorgan by an innings Godleman and Lace both with centuries also have the more than useful Madsen and out ex Luis Reece who I always thought was unlucky to be shown the door, bowling wise Palladino and Rampaul are more than useful however given the lack of dryness in the ground will not be seeing young Afghan spinner Hamidullah Qadri nor Matt Parkinson.

Specsavers County Championship Division Two, Pattonair County Ground, Derby (day two):
Derbyshire 153 & 19-4: Onions 3-9
Lancashire 236: Croft 53*; Reece 6-58
Derbyshire (3 pts) trail Lancashire (4 pts) by 64 runs with six wickets remaining
Match scorecard
Graham Onions took three wickets after tea as Division Two leaders Lancashire edged towards victory at Derbyshire.

Six Luis Reece wickets had restricted the Red Rose to 236 earlier on day two - a first-innings lead of 83 runs.

But former England seamer Onions, 36, took 3-9 from six overs, including his 700th first-class victim Wayne Madsen.

Bad light forced the players off at 17:30 BST, with Derbyshire 19-4 - trailing by 64 runs - needing a fine batting display to rescue the match.

James Anderson added to his 5-18 in Derbyshire's first innings, trapping Billy Godleman lbw, but it was Onions once again who ruthlessly dealt with the home side's top order.

Earlier Lancashire's Steven Croft (53 not out) registered the only half-century of the game as he helped them to a batting point before running out of team-mates.

Left-arm medium-pacer Reece finished with figures of 6-58 - taking five wickets in an innings for the third time in his career - but Derbyshire have work to do on day three merely to ensure their opponents have to bat again.

Forecast for the end of the world tomorrow

he game of the season is almost upon us and Lancashire members will be travelling from far and wide for this all ticket four day encounter mainly due to the powers that be arranging for a four day game about 80 miles north of Manchester in the small Yorkshire village of Sedbergh were the title favourites will take on Durham at the village's local school although it is a private school for fee payers. The wickets will be perfect one can only guess at the weather given it's proximity to the Lakes.

Sedbergh (/ˈsɛdbər/ SED-bər or locally /ˈsɛbər/ SEB-ər) is a small town and civil parish in Cumbria, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies about 10 miles (16 km) east of Kendal,[2] 28 miles (45 km) north of Lancaster and about 10 miles (16 km) north of Kirkby Lonsdale. The town sits just within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Sedbergh is at the foot of the Howgill Fells on the north bank of the River Rawthey which joins the River Lune about 2 miles (3 km) below the town.

Sedbergh has a narrow main street lined with shops. From all angles, the hills rising behind the houses can be seen. Until the coming of the Ingleton Branch Line in 1861, these remote places were reachable only by walking over some fairly steep hills. The railway to Sedbergh was closed in 1965.

The civil parish covers a large area, including the hamlets of Millthrop, Catholes, Marthwaite, Brigflatts, High Oaks, Howgill, Lowgill and Cautley, the southern part of the Howgill Fells and the western part of Baugh Fell.

George Fox, a founder of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), spoke in the churchyard of St. Andrew's Church (which he called a "steeple house") and on nearby Firbank Fell during his travels in the North of England in 1652. Briggflatts Meeting House was built in 1675. It is the namesake of Basil Bunting's long poem Briggflatts (1966). Sedbergh School is a co-educational boarding school in the town, while Settlebeck School is the main state-funded secondary school for the town.

Sedbergh School is a co-educational independent boarding school in the town of Sedbergh in Cumbria, in North West England. It comprises a junior school for children aged 4 to 13 and the main school. It was established in 1525.

If memory serves me right there is a decent chippy on the main street

A 14 man squad has been named for Lancashire's Specsavers County Championship clash against Durham at Sedbergh School, starting tomorrow (Sunday 30 June).

Lancashire head north bidding to regain their place at the top of Division Two after an unbeaten start to their Championship campaign (four wins, three draws). Glamorgan are currently top, one point clear of the Red Rose, but Glen Chapple's side have a game in hand.

Stephen Parry and Matthew Parkinson are added to the squad whilst Tom Bailey has been ruled out through injury.

The 28 year-old underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to his right knee last week in order to remove a small torn fragment in his meniscus (cartilage). He will work closely with the Club’s medical team in the coming weeks in order to return him to bowling as soon as possible.
