Russia attacking the Baltic states? If that is indeed the case, a dreaded WWIII is coming sooner than expected unless a great statesman appears from somewhere to avert such a dreadful scenario unfolding.

If Russia gets nervous about it's neighbours joining NATO, Finland could be the next to suffer. Remember Putin is desperate to re-establish the Russian Empire.

It's worth noting that Finland actually has one of the biggest land/reserve armies in Europe with huge armaments/ordnance to match. They've been preparing for such a possibility for decades. Amazing eh! Their govt politicians have still been aware of a previous war v Russia a long time ago. They never dismissed it as a one-off conflict although they obviously hoped that would be the case. Also the Finns have a long 1200 mile border with Russia. Couple that up with Poland's border with Russia and that becomes massive surround perimeter if Finland chose to join NATO even though they've had a decent association with Russia down the years. It looks like that relationship has been somewhat "soured" by the Russian attack on Ukraine.

I was reading Savid Javid's comments re the Brit govt position covering the support to Ukraine and his bizarre comparison re their ordnance support of Saudi Arabia aainst Yemen for just under 10 years, arms that have killed 1000s of women and children btw. Conclusion: the man is a hypocrite, a total con man trying to brainwash people here with this kinda indefensible shit! They sell arms to kill people and make lotsa dosh in the process. A wee bit of honesty wouldn't go amiss eh!

This disgusting behaviour/atrocity just ties in with comments in my original OP. I wish there was a way to catch every one of these perpetrators and punish them severely with possibly the ultimate penalty of capital punishment. However, I can't see it happening!

I totally agree, but you've got to realise that Putin doesn't care. He doesn't care about people (even his own), he doesn't care about cities, he does care about gaining territory. Mariupol doesn't matter, the land bridge between east and south does. As long as he keeps the conflict within Ukrainian borders, he knows the West would never get involved.
And war is never fair or considerate. Civilians will be killed in every war. It's a fact of life, but still a tragedy nonetheless.

It's a war that should never have happened, but initiated by people who are nothing more than ruthless criminals who will murder people if forced to do so - not the only country that has such a criminal fraternity terrorising their own people; there are lotsa them!! I must say the role of Putin's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Sergei Lavrov, is so similar to Hitler's main propagandist, Joseph Goebbels, who was involved in mass murder, pre WWII and during WWII, and "peddled" the same kinda bogus shit that Lavrov is uttering almost on a daily basis. One can see that callous disregard for the well being of people in general. He performs this charade with impunity - so irritating to watch and listen to it. I'm sure he does it deliberately to provoke people. I'd luv to see this clown "brought to book" for crimes against humanity together with Putin. The "brainwashing" of their own population is scary TBF!! However, I don't believe that a whole population believes the "spin" that they issue in conjunction with their complicit media cohorts. There's no doubt it is governance by terror and lots n lots people must be frightened to say anything against Putin and his criminal gang. Western politicians, NATO, EU and UN officials will be well aware of what they are.

Bottom line is that Russia probably doesn't have the capability to take and hold Ukraine......And Ukraine certainly doesn't have the capability to remove Russia from the territory it's taken.
A stalemate/Forever war seems mostly likely now. With the biggest winners being the arms and energy dealers.

Yep! That is a likely outcome and the last line makes me reflect back to comments of my late father who fought in Europe during WWII and occasionally uttered cutting remarks about the "winners" of any war in years to come - the arms dealers!! "Spot on" dad and I can only imagine what you'd be saying now if you were alive to witness this horrible conflict in Ukraine.

Wherever I've turned up in the industrial lubes for manufacturing business over the last 40+ years when it comes to anything aerospace/military, you eventually end up in the military side of the divide. In some cases it's just outright military (most here might now be, ahem, privatised these days but they have all the same staff and way of working from former HM Gov ownership).
Anything they make that has a sell by or use by date on it will ultimately go in one of two directions. It's not far from the Supermarket model. If it's safe to dismantle/scrap/reuse it will be. If it isn't, it will be fired at someone, somewhere even if we don't care who we sell it to. We just need to rattle the cages of a few of those Johnny Forriner politicians somewhere and they'll probably go along with it or be on the receiving end of it. (Not just us that do this by the way).
Along with a few examples of the fancy new stuff that has a camera on board that makes everything look "oh so clinical" to make us feel good, when the reality is, it flattens everything in it's path and a fair distance around. The old stuff following it in is even worse.
You think the Ruskies are any different?
They all love to see their "defence toys" in action. Unfortunately, far too may of the fools in charge of the "defence toys" (Ruskie or otherwise) haven't a clue what a military target looks like, so anything big and tall will do. Which equates to where a lot of the me's and you's live, as you may have noticed in Ukraine.
The long rows of semi's in the suburbs hasn't been off limit's to the Ruskies this time either. Far easier to raid, loot, rape and pillage when you don't have to run up 20 flights of stairs and turn up too knackered to ask for a cup of tea let alone tell someone to get their kit off at gun point while listening for the whistle of an incoming passed it's sell by date missile from your (so called) mates.
