We have never bought players as an investment asset although, if we had say bought Lukaku for £20m+, had his services for a few seasons and then sold him on doubling our original investment it would have been nice biz if JP had the nerve to have done it.

Blimey, that's a real January Sale bargain!!

Just hope we do SOMETHING - I get the strong feeling that we could just do with a boost in the player department right now. I know we've had a few good results but the 2 MF injuries, plus our obvious lack of a true goal scorer, will, I reckon, make any momentum difficult to sustain (if we actually HAVE still got any momentum after Saturday)
.
We need some positive attacking players in!

Everton's Naismith off to Norwich then.
Tidy, proven player - IMO just the sort of midfielder that we need at the moment......

Don't get excited lads...
Nothing will happen unless we pick up a 6ft 6in central defender thug in bovver boots.
It ain't gonna happen

Long time reader...first time poster!

Was just wondering why we obsess over players going to other teams? I realise this is a discussion forum but it seems like it is generally a place to point out all the players signing for other teams for how ever many millions, with the odd WBA rumour thrown in. I fully understand the frustration of some fans when teams like Norwich, Watford etc. are paying good money for players who some consider to be in our 'bracket'.

The reality is none of know the background to these deals. Is location an important point for the player? Is there a reason that we haven't pursued a player - either an off pitch personality problem (we know we get bother with them now and again) or a niggling injury? Does the selling club have an alterior motive for selling to the club they do and not to others?

Pulis and (probably more importantly) JP will know who we want, who we can realistically afford and who we can't. I've every faith in Pulis and the rest of the recruitment team. They've been behind us signing 2, in my opinion, players who could easily hold their own at a 'bigger' team in Fletcher and Evans. Rondon and Lambert, along with Ideye etc have been gambles that haven't paid off. They could've just as easily came in and had an impact like Ighalo, Michu, Lambert (at Southampton) etc. All of whom were untried and untested in the premier league.

Keep the faith everyone - and hopefully my first post won't be shot down in too many flames and I'll continue to get in healthy debates/discussions. COYB

Well said Darren and welcome to the boards. Other than Fletch and Evans, not sure about the performance of the recruiting team. It was massively better under DA.

Just wanted to share what I have heard from a mate who has good links within the club...
He has told me that Sadio was sent home today from training because he was sick.
Watch this space..

Then four different papers reporting Saido may be gone by the weekend !!!

Cheers Baggies, I agree that under DA we made some very shrewd signings which proved to be great value but, without checking, I'm guessing that it wasn't plain sailing from the very start with him and his team either. I think, with time and patience, TP and his boys will recruit smartly whilst staying within the tight constraints JP sets.
