Aston Villa @ Deepdale 1/10/2016

You're getting sacked in the morning was sung to Di Matteo as Villa sunk to a 2-0 defeat at Deepdale, it was the Villa fans who were singing it and judging by this display a P45 and a mammoth compensation cheque will be given to the Italian shortly.
Having lobbed £50 million on players you would expect something for your money, not the first half ineptness of a side who seem tolack confidence in their game and sadly manager.
After a bright start Villa soon began to go backwards and on five minutes Robinson set up Pearson after some pap dfending by Hutton, Pearson left footed blasted the ball past Bunn. It was n't going to get better although having plenty of possession Villa did not have an effort on goal in the entire 45 minutes. North End really should have been out of sight by half time, Hugill scuffed a tame effort at goal, ex Villa player went close, a couple of goalmouth scrambles which Villa just about cleared and almost a comedy moment when keeper Bunn and Elphick got wires crossed outside the area, sadly Hugill could not get in a position to take advantage.
Not to worry six minutes before the break it was two and all credit must go to Pearson, who harried Westwood into losing possession 25 yards out, his pass found Johnson whose effort on goal was blocked but the ball ran to the unmarked Hugill who tapped home.
Villa's 5400 support was less than impressed with their sides performance as was the manager who broght on McCormack and Gestede, it made a bit of a difference Gestede is one tall dude and should really have scored when he headed over from a corner, also headed wide shortly afterwards. Robinson and McGeady went close for North End as Villa's impetus started to fade.
North End's backline coped extremely well but Pearson was the stand out performer.
North End gave their customary free kick away late on McCormack hit the side netting and with virtually the last move of the game Villa got a penalty, no complaints aout the decision. McCormack placed the ball to Maxwell's left he made a great save summed up Villa's performance.
As bad as Villa were North End were excellent, two tacking midfielders in the side does really make a difference.

Preston North End 2 Aston Villa 0 Att 17690

Di Matteo has said that if the penalty goes in, Villa could still have snatched a point, clutching at straws methinks, given that there was not time to take the resulting corner. He's doomed.
Have you heard about the news on Mizar 5
