You can always look at their accounts to see how much they're squirrelling away. They might have brought in a lot of money in recent years, but they have massive expenses and have spent quite a bit on duds (fees and wages). Considering the CL money and fees received for Wanyama and Forster as well as others you'd expect them to be in a much stronger position than they actually are. They had to borrow money to pay the wages in the summer and the reason they've barely spent a penny this year is that Forster's sale is enough to cover most of the drop in revenue from lack of CL football, but that's about it. They'll have money to spend next year, but nothing like the £40-60m head start they should have bought themselves WITHOUT weakening their squad.
Funny thing is, if we'd stayed in the top flight their revenues would have been higher and it would have been easier to attract players to league that might be, at least in theory, more competitive.
