Though it helps, players & managers don't need to be friends in order to work together. It's extremely unprofessional for any player or manager to put their personal grievances ahead of the club.
For me, anyone found to have done this, and hurt the club in the process should have their contracts terminated. This stipulation should be in the small print of every contract for staff and player alike.
I know that Antonio didn't want to leave. Yes, he was frustrated with SG & how he was used but was settled in Sheffield & wanted to stay.
He had to agree to a Club statement, saying that he needed a new challenge (which wasn't true).
SG didn't do this to hurt the Club, he was just so desperate to sign May that he would have sacrificed anyone to get him.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
