Huddersfield Town travel to Horwich to the Reebok Stadium on Tuesday evening to play Bolton Wanderers in the 2nd round of this season's EFL Trophy.
It's now a straight knockout, with drawn games going to a penalty shoot out instead of extra time.

Head to Head

Bolton lead the head to head with 46 wins to Town's 37, with 20 draws.
Those statistics are from Soccerbase, which sadly hasn't included the game in the FL Trophy. We have only met once in this competition and that was on the 2nd of February 1993 at Leeds Road, four days before they would come back here for a league game.
Town won the Trophy game 3-0. There was a crowd of 2,996 there for what was an Area Quarter Final game. Our goals came from Iwan Roberts and Mark Stuart, with future Hibs, Rotherham and St Mirren manager, Alan Stubbs gifting us an own goal. They came back on Saturday and came away with a point in a 1-1 draw, which left us bottom of the 3rd Division. The Trophy results probably keeping manager Ian Ross in his job.
We lost the Area Semi Final 5-2 away at Wigan Athletic's Springfield Park.
A brief history of Bolton's recent record in this competition:
2023/24: Lost on pens in q/f at Blackpool.
2022/23: Won it, beating Plymouth 4-0 at Wembley.
2021/22: Lost in rd 3 at Hartlepool.
2020/21: Out in group stage.
2019/20: Lost in rd 2 at Accrington.
Trotters profiles:
Joel Coleman, our reserve keeper in the David Wagner promotion season, is there now. He hasn't played this season but was the one who played in all of the Trophy games last season.
Kyle Dempsey, who played 24 times for us in 2015/16, is now in his 4th season at Burnden Park. He's been a naughty boy and has to wear an electronic tag when he's not playing football, following his conviction for assault last year. He was given a 12 month suspended sentence.
The third ex Town player in their squad is Scott Arfield. Released in 2013 after three seasons at the Galpharm, he went on to have a great career despite that setback. He went to play for Burnley, winning promotion twice to the Premier League. Then on to Rangers for five seasons, winning the title in 20/21 and the Scottish Cup the year after.
He was a Scotland u21 player when he joined us, but later switched to Canada because his dad was born in Toronto, earning himself 19 caps.
