And so we move on to Smoke-on-Stench. We've had some moments of note at the 653 Brittania Stanley Matthews Victoria Park Stadium in the past. Didn't bother mentioning it in my original post but thought I might now.
There was the 2-1 win down there in the Great Escape season under Jacko's leadership. The Barnes/Stewart partnership coming up with the goals there, which really brought the end game in sight. I think we secured safety not long after.
Then there was that League Cup defeat when Bacuna scored that ridiculous own goal. We'd started the season full of hope that we would get a comfortable time in the Premier League. This awful performance in Stoke, early in the season, showed us all the reality of what bad recruitment had gone on in the summer and how this season was going to be a real struggle.
Then there was last season. The 3-0 defeat marked the end of the Fotheringham era. Even though he'd already been sacked, it was the tipping point of crappiness. Ronnie Jepson phoned Warnock in New York to tell him how shite we were and they could be making a huge mistake. Fortunately, they did come and save us.
Today's game could well be a pivotal moment. A good performance and three points could be the confidence builder we've been searching for. But another drab, uninspiring performance, with the body language of the team turning even more negative, could well be the death knell for the season.
Come on Town. Fingers out!
Jonathan Hogg (shoulder) and Radinio Balker (thigh) both out injured, while Delano Burgzorg and Josh Koroma are benched.
Sorba Thomas returns from suspension, Bojan Radulovic and Brodie Spencer start, and Pat Jones makes his first Championship start.
