246 hardy souls from the North West , took the 10 hour round trip to witness a performance that had an end of days performance similar to the latter end of Westley's tenure.
Arriving at the ground at 5.30pm, the now traditional wander round the retail park before the game, probably the highlight of the entire even took place outside B&Q, man buys a piece of wood as big as a door, then tries to get into the back of his car, me and mate looked at each other and said ain't going to go in, last seen the guy was going back into the store and was probably asking for someone to deliver it far him.
Team wise Mr Fantastic's side reeked of negativity all the better attacking players were on the bench, he wanted a draw he didn't get which is all the more galling because this was not a good Swansea side but to be fair probably Swansea fans were thinking the exact same of us.
The first half saw two sides playing exactly the same way badly. Tedious slow build up and then when you have run out of ideas pump it forward, truly dire. Swans had a couple of decent chances both saved by Cornell the first from Lowe was an excellent save. This was his first league game for us, did alright apart from some of his kicking was ropey.
Brady had our one effort it went miles wide, which brings me to the Irishman who he started before Miller is lost on me, anyway he got injured and on cam the Canadian and hey presto we have an attacking outlet.
Zero all at half time
Better from us in the second period, needless to say we went one down, Hughes beaten doown our left, ball into the box ends up with PATERSON who sweeps the ball into the far corner, he would do the same in the 95th minute.
The goal actuallywoke us up looked dangerous and about 10 minutes later MILLER curled in a great goal having scared the home defenders witless. Game most defintely on, thought we looked the most likely as the home fans were staring to have a pop at their board which is always a sign things on the pitch are going slightly badly.
Draw looked on the cards but a horror of an error by McCann and the away end was dancing with tears in their eyes as PATERSONpotted the winner.
Speaking of potting Mr Fantastic is now running out of time, we have decent players but he is not playing a system which will get the best out of them, never mind easy game next, Leeds at home.
Swansea caretaker head coach Alan Sheehan:
"I'm delighted with the win. Winning is a good habit to have in the Championship. We haven't been good enough at home.
"In an ideal world you want the wonderful performance and to win the game, but we did enough to win the game.
"Were we fluent? Probably no. They are a physical team and you have to deal with that. We tried to build through the thirds. We didn't really build the tempo we wanted to.
"Sometimes you have to grind it out and two moments of absolute quality from Jamie Paterson win us the game."
Preston manager Ryan Lowe:
"I am disappointed. It's still raw. I am gutted that we just couldn't see it through to get a point.
"We are disappointed with the first goal. We have left him unmarked inside the box and he scores a good goal - you can't leave good players unmarked.
"The second one, we know we should pass forwards, play percentages. We have been undone by one of our own mistakes.
"I will have to lift myself first and foremost because I feel as if I am letting people down. I have to take the brunt of it, I am the manager. We will be in tomorrow afternoon and I will have to lift the players."
