A barmy summer evening next to the River Wyre just to the East of Garstang Town centre, both sides playing their second game of the season Garstang having won at home on Saturday whilst the visitors had been well beaten at home by Atherton LR
Pitch looked in great nick although give it a few weeks no doubt be submerged under the River.
A decent sized crowd saw an eventful match with honours shared
First half
An even affair McDaid tipped a corner onto the bar and saved well from ex Lancaster player Clarke with his legs, took Saints a while to get into the game they played some nice football with Diggle taking a no nonsense approaching to having a shot at goal by just hammering it at the target, his range finder was slightly off however he started to get closer and closer. Garstang were slightly generous in giving the ball away in front of their own area but got away with it. The home side tried to play on the break and were getting some joy down teh flanks and were on top towards half time forcing a series of corners which they had two headers which should have been better directed.
Second half
More open then the first with St Helens looking more likely and against teh run of play they were 2 down, both had a touch fortune about them not that the Zach's Crosbie and Clarke cared. The first a cross should have been cleared however the Saints defended slipped at the wrong time and the second looked like a hand ball in the build up not given and Clarke scored from cose range.
Saints battled back and Diggle finally got one past the keeper.
They didn't really build on the goal and the game went into a bit of a lull substitutions were made and it was time for the away side to try and salvage something from the game, final ball let them down util with basically the last free kick of the game they drew level, home keeper came for the cross didn't get it, bit of a scramble overhead kick sending the ball towards the goal were Hughes forced it home queue scenes, they deserved it.
