If we want preferential access to the single market you have to go with the EU terms, they are not asking for anything that the USA wouldn't ask for in any deal. Agreements all have a basis to deal with possible competitive advantages, thats the way it's gonna work whatever.
Boris has a chance to at least try and save something for his country or he can throw us all down the chute to please Farage and the ERG. I suspect he will be gone quite soon anyway so it may well be the latter after all.
Europes been ready for a while now, for instance the dutch have hired and trained 1000 new customs staff. The UK is nowhere near ready.
