I can perceive you've changed your previous view that Scotland is a region of the UK but it is indeed a sovereign country whose population, if it voted unanimously to break away from the Union, they would not need any permission from parliament to do it - it would be a sovereign right to self-determination, unlike a region although on a separate topic I will say that I empathise with the plight of the Catalan people in their quest to break from Spain as an independent region/country but Catalonia was in fact historically an old independent kingdom (Kingdom of Aragon and County of Barcelona) that was invaded and taken over by Spain!! The language, culture and "roots" are noticeably different in Catalonia.
