Of course re the constitutional issue don't forget that the USA is not a democracy, it is a republic that has democratic safeguards that prevent central govt imposing its will on any US state! I'll bet Trump would like to change that eh! Also the 1787 constitution (2nd) was framed by an oligarchy of slave-owning, land-owning farmers to protect their own property owning interests against landless and urban labourers. I'd say that emanated from a class war that was sparked by Shays' Rebellion in 1786 that compelled the ruling landed and merchant oligarchy to set up their centralist constitution to ensure central govt can put down any future rebellions of this kind. They also rigged the election process to ensure the ruling oligarchy could not be destabilised and ousted. How did they do it? By filtering the election of representatives through intermediate electoral colleges. This position still remains to this day and it ensured that Trump became US President in spite of Hilary Clinton winning by nearly 3 million votes. GW Bush similarly became a US President while his adversary, Al Gore, defeated him on the vote in the 2000 US election. What a joke! Conclusion: the economic elite still rule in the USA and the idea that Trump represents the white working class is a myth (the same myth as the idea that the American working class is right wing - utter tosh!) IMO propagated in the UK, most assiduously by the bbc and the London print media. Only a third of Trump voters in 2016 had an income below the US median of $50k!
