The latest accounts were published today and the bottom line is we show a rise in revenue but also a big rise in losses, now up to 20m. Add to that the 9m loss the previous season, thats 29m of the 39m we are allowed to lose under FFP, so the spending this season will likely see us go over the top. Not all these losses will be applied to FFP, I think the club submits different details to the FL and costs for the academy, ground, community programmes etc are taken out, so the actual number applied to FFP will be smaller, but not by enough to make a difference. So where do we go from here?? We have spent a lot to try to get promoted and we have come close but failed so we will almost certainly see a reboot of the playing staff. I think the only way we avoid an embargo is to sell some of the assets we currently have, such as Westwood, FF, Hooper and Bannan - all of whom will have a decent value in the current market. After that we need to replace them with something, hopefully with youngsters who can manage to step up and also with some free transfers or smallers fee players from abroad or the Pub League, but we cannot keep the current squad we have.
For me all our out of contract players with the exception of Pudil should be allowed to leave, we do need to sign Clare and Hirst if we can, if not we should hold out for as much as we can get for them, even if that means them going to a tribunal. We also need to try to offload a few of the contracted players who we maybe can't get much of a fee for but get their wages off the books - such as Fletcher, Abdi and Boyd? - but that won't be easy with the wages they are currently on.
What else though should we expect or even hope to see happen assuming we stay in the Championship and is there any way we can mount a challenge next season or is it going to take a few to get back among the top 6?
