There is no way you could even consider banning guns here in the US, there are simply too many in circulation to remove them. The key it seems to me is control, not outright banning!! There are genuine reasons for citizens to hold gun permits and certain types of gun, such as a handgun for protection, a rifle for target shooting or hunting or a shotgun for hunting, I can accept all of them. But this guy was using an automatic weapon and that is a gun that has only one purpose - killing people!!
These need to be outlawed and in most normal societies this would happen fairly swiftly, but not in the US!! The gun lobby see the restriction of any type of gun as a slippery slope to a complete ban yet there is no evidence or real support for a total ban, but the message the likes of the NRA use means reputable gun owners will rail against any ban, even if they themselves would never own a military style weapon. The NRA are so effective at what they do, they have approx 3 million members yet they control so many politicians due to the campaign donations they make, they gave millions of dollars to the Trump campaign alone!! They have also been known to finance an alternative Republican candidate to stand against the current Republican in office in a primary election if the current one waivers in the whole gun control debate, this is the sort of resources they have!!
Lets also remember that the US gun industry is a $30 billion industry, that alone gives it a hell of a lot of clout when it comes to politicians!! I don't know what the solution is but there will be a ton of outrage, an initial call for more gun control and support for victims for a few days and then life will once again move on without even the mention of any further action!!
