I don't know where the idea that the English are big fans of nuclear annihilation comes from, but it certainly wasn't from that programme. All that happened was that 3 people wanted him to confirm that he would press the nuclear button if the UK suffered a nuclear strike from another country, or he wouldn't. Yes or no. It's not difficult to comprehend. But he went on and on about not advocating first use and wanting to have dialogue with any potential enemy to avert a crisis. We all know that, Jeremy! He refused to answer the question and, sadly, that is why many voters will shy away from voting Labour.
I might have missed something in the tedium of the election programmes, but I can't recall any of our politicians arguing the case for first use. Personally I would have lots of dialogue and not press the button first, but if another country did attack us with nuclear missiles, I'd be pressing that button. "Wha daur meddle wi' me" comes to mind. That doesn't make me a warmonger or wanting to have millions of people wiped off the face of the earth. That makes me a force to be wary of by a rogue nation.
