North End were within a couple of minutes of securing an unlikely point in a game where for the vast majority of time they had been awful. Town dominated the ball and when we did eventually get it we gave it away so easily.
Town were on the front foot from the off, Maxwell had to make a smart early saves and two other efforts were not far of the North End goal.
For the first ten minutes Town were on track to have 99% of possession and it looked as if this was going to be a long afternoon, however when in good positions they do not seem to want to shoot but seem to reply on putting the perfect pass into the box, North End were not helped by an early injury to Clarke but Town were probing away but couldn't find away through the yellow shirted defence.
On the occasions we did get the ball and keep it we did look dangerous, but it looked only a matter of time until the first goal arrived and sure enough it was one nil to surprise surprise North End, Gallagher found McGeady in acres of space, no one closed him down and from 20 yards he buried the ball past Ward.
Town's wunderkid Billing also went off injured and following the goal North End grew in confidence and although Town had the ball they kept going sideways across the pitch instead of forward.
They had plenty of joy down the left were Van La Parra was giving Vermijl the run around, Marnick bless him is good going forward but lacks one quality a defender needs, the ability to defend.
Town levelled on thye stroke of half time, a soft goal and Maxwell shoulders the blame on two counts, lost concentration when trying to get the ball back from Town fans and when the corner was quickly taken by Mooy was not in the correct position, missed the ball and Kachunga headed home.
The second half was a reprise of the first for 25 minutes although without any tangible goal mouth action especially teh one we were attacking. It took a goal to spark the game to life and it was Town that got it, a cross form the right found all North End's defenders missing and substitute Payne headed home at the back stick. they they didn't have the lead for long when to give Mr Probert credit he played a good advantage when Horgan was fould on the edge of the box, Johnson fed the ball wide to Barkuizen, inch perfect cross, Hugill header all square. Hugill was inches wide with a header minutes later as for once we looked to have the advantage and then in the 96th minute came the penalty.
It was given for an alleged stamp by Hugill on Kachunga, didn't see it, suspect Mr Probert didn't and the liner ceratinly didn't, after an hour of discussion penalty given, less than impressed away players, manager and fans.
Short lived joy as Maxwell saved the kick from Mooy but the ball ran wide to Quaner who put the ball in the net for the winner.
Little time to comeback, felt like a mugging and Grayson had a frank discussion with the referee on the pitch.

Huddersfield Town 3 Preston North End 2 Att 21200

Huddersfield head coach David Wagner:

"That sums up what we have seen from the team this season.

"When one player makes a mistake another one steps forward. That's what we are all about.

"It was one heck of a win. It was pure entertainment with a happy end for us. It was a fantastic performance."

Preston manager Simon Grayson:

"I have spoken to the players and the referee [about the penalty decision] and seen it on DVD and it's clear that Jordan didn't push him. It was a very poor refereeing decision.

"I don't go to see a referee very often but I do when I feel I have a genuine complaint. It's a more than disappointing decision.

"The referee says he has pushed him and stamped on him but he must have decent vision to see that."
