Bristol City @ Deepdale 4/4/2017
#4
The only disappointment last night is that there were fewer than 10,000 home supporters to see the demolition of a Bristol City side who were destroyed by a four blitz in 20 second half minutes. City at times during the second half were desperately poor but we did play some sexy football at times led by McGeady and Pearson.
An evenly contested first half saw North End create some good chances the best of which fell to McGeady close in however his shot lacked power and was scrambled away for a corner.
City had some joy down the left hand side with O'Dowda giving Clarke some difficulties, a couple of shots by Cotterill the second only saved at the second attempt by Maxwell. Abraham caused us some problems( get on loan next season).
North End took the lead half way through the half good work by McGeady and Robinson saw the latter's cross fired home by Barkuizen although may have taken a slight deflection when going in.
City fought back with a Wright header being saved by Maxwell and the ex North Ender was on target with a shot that again Maxwell saved at the second attempt.
It was carnage in the second half within a minute Robinson fouled by Flint after a good pass by Barkuizen, McGeady blasted home the spot kick although Fielding did get a hand to it. Soon three a rasping free kick by Gallagher headed home by Clarke. The fourth Gallagher involved again his pass teased defender Magnusson wo thought he could intercept it he was wrong, Barkuizen in on goal passed to teh unmarked and possibly offside Robinson 4-0. Robinson obliged again soon afterwards scoring from close range after City failed to deal with a short corner, could have been six but Fielding stopped a rocket from McGeady.
Soon after North End declared taking both McGeady and Pearson off, City strived for a consolation and looked a side destined for the drop.
As for us three poins from Fulham, five from Wednesday, forty games gone still in with a chance of the play offs, not bad for a side with the third smallest budget.

Preston North End 5 Bristol City 0 Att 10200

Preston boss Simon Grayson told BBC Radio Lancashire: "It ended up being a good night for us. First half got the goal, said at half time had to be quicker with the ball, move it around quicker. Key moments change games and Chris Maxwell's save from Bailey Wright was one of those at 1-0.

"From there, we got full steam ahead, got the penalty and then played with confidence and swagger without being too complacent and scored some very good goals.

"It was good for us to get that base to go from, some of the goals we scored and some of the play was exceptional. You saw the players enjoying what they are doing and it's been a great night for us."

Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol: "It's devastating, frustrating and I'm angry. The first half we've played some excellent football, I felt we were the better side, and were unlucky to come in 1-0 down.

"But in those moments we need to be tougher. Whether it be balls into the box, finishing, 50-50 tackles. In that 20 minute spell in the second-half we capitulated. We've got to be tougher.

"Nobody can say they've had a good game but it's frustrating because we really weren't that bad in the first half. In my opinion it wasn't a 5-0 game but we got beaten 5-0 and there are three or four really poor defensive errors that cost us."
