Up to 8th we go mainly due to the manager making a tactical change at half time going froma non working 343 to a more traditional 442 , following the change it was almost one way traffic although North Endbeing North End missed a stackful of chances especially when Rangers were down to 10 but in the end deserved the points.
North End were slightly hamstrung with Browning being ruled out, he is likely to miss six weeks, with Baptiste not fit meant we don't have a right back who is fit at the moment hence the strange formation that was used in the first half.
Rangers probably the better side in the first half as North End were disjointed with Horgan spending most of his time as a deep lying right wing back which was a waste of his talents.
LuaLua had an effort fire narrowly wide whilst Wszolek had a shot comfortably saved by Maxwell, whilst at the other end Smithies pulled off a great save from a Cunningham header from a corner. Eight minutes from time Rangers took the lead, poor defensively from North End but a canny bit of skill from LuaLua. A long throw from the right was let tobounce to the aformentioned LuaLua who cheekily back heeled the ball into the net. Que back flips fdrom the Rangers players I think his name sake Tresor LuaLua did the same when scoring for Cochester in the same end about 15 years ago.
North End were level on half time good work by Cunningham winning the ball from Onuhoa ball to McGeady who worked his way along the 18 yard box found a bit o space and curled it past Smithies. Rangers could have had a penalty seconds later as Maxwell and Freeman went for a ball nohing given by the whistle happy Mr Coote.
Cunningham to right back second half 442 hey presto away we go, ironically Rangers had the first chance however when well placed Bidwell din't shoot chance was lost and within seconds Cunningham paced one narrowly wide at the other end. North End were vreating chances and missing them until Hugill stab home the winner for the home side from a corner with 16 minutes to go.
Things went from bad to worse for Rangers when Freeman got a second yellow for what appeared to be a stamp on Spurr, Mr Holloway and the Rangers bench were less than impressed with the decision. Following the dismissal we had chances galore , hit the bar and saw Smithies twice deny sub Barkuizen, Rangers could have earned a point when Ngbakoto was well placed but his shot ended up with the Rangers fans behind the goal.
12 games to go six points to make up starting with an interesting game by the Thames next week, still all to play for.
