I agree that a decent Democrat (Sanders, e.g) would have wiped the floor with Trump but of the aspirants for the Republicans, I could only see Kasich as someone who would have given her a ride for her money. The rest were cattle fodder.
Sanders would have been a disaster in my opinion and I am not convinced he would have beaten Trump, too left wing for most Yanks!!! Kasich was decent, I was ok with Rubio as well. It is amazing how Trump just brushed them aside one by one, but a guy who can say what he wants without having to hold back or follow any party line can trash any other candidate who is not whiter than white and we know most politicians won't pass that test!! It seems an unwritten rule in party politics, you don't go after me for transgression A and I won't mention transgression B while we are both running for nomination, in a sense, lets debate but lets not destroy the party in the process, Trump was able to ignore all that.
I really hope Hillary wins and then does surround herself with good people but I fear it will just be the same cronies we see all the time, rather than some fresh faces and dare I say cross party stuff. Whoever wins this election is going to have to do some serious work on bringing the country together because its as divided now as it probably ever has been.
