Ha ha ha! Aye there has been a strong historical link, l'entente cordiale, between Scotland and France that goes back to Elizabethan times! Strangely there was also an association between Scottish pioneers/advisers (military, naval and free trade) and Russia that is still recognised today by the Russian gov.

Quiet again yesterday .. all down to being in Marselle lille and badly policed in to off the cultural melting pots with Russian lunatics id say ? we proved against Wales and solvakia that we could stand side by side without a problem Thumb up

A few ideas for Things to do for the next WC which is going to be special in so many ways Doh Doh Doh is ban fans altogether ( we cant do that ) so the next step would be to only give out a handfull off tickets to adults and familys maybe , but certainly not kids under 20 years old Doh ban drinking in public squares Doh get the venue right whatever them corrupt little feffing hands pull out off the fishtank Doh like the last place England should be put is near moscow or any ultra nutters back garden although the place is full of them Doh maybe we should be based in sibiera it certainly wouldnt make any difference on the football front as they move around like dummys anyway Whistle

Quick note on here:
Spent 5 days in France and the English fans were the worst I encountered. Half of the folk who made it to the fan park for the Russia game could barely stand by kick-off and spent the majority of it either facing away from the screen singing 'I wanna go home' or '10 German bombers' - on a side note what a pathetically bad song '10 German bombers' is. Also our lot look like hooligans from the offset - whereas other countries are all proudly sporting their colours our lot are sporting their Stone Island jackets and Adidas Gazelle trainers. I'm very glad I spent my money watching other teams and enjoying the really good, positive atmospheres their fans created. Iceland were un-be-bloody-lievable.

This isn't an anti-England post. I like Hodgson and think we've actually done okay, and support England, although I lose zero sleep when we lose. I just don't get the hysteria over our great fans when for me they were the worst set of fans I saw over there...

Im agreed they are embbarrasing VERY! the same as the rest who go to places like Ibiza and the Greek shitholes scattered allover the med ! but they are what they are ? young annoying little kiddies not organized firms reaping grean street style violence on the more cultured poeples off Europe ! what does hooligan mean its original meaning was little knobheads like mentioned ! but its latter meaning was the for the firms etc ! so what shall we call them then ? im going for stupid little knobheads as being the best words to describe the moronic pricks and not hooligans !

Spot on. Those songs about world war 2 and inflatable spitfires are xxxx cringe.

Certainly i've noticed with a lot of other countries at the tournament there seems more of a family vibe to the supports. Maybe thats the way forward for england.

Interestingly on BBC606, Pat Nevin was saying that in Russia the police are always at matches in large numbers and so violence is less likely. He had experienced it first hand as a commentator for numerous international matches.

Plus the Russians know exactly who these Ultra thugs are and would round them up before the World Cup.

Putin, as with the Olympics, will want to showcase Russia and will throw resources at the tournament to ensure its a glowing success. It might be one of the safer events in fact.

Interesting and plausible.

I comment as someone who has followed England over the 3 games arriving the Saturday of the Russia game and getting back home Tuesday.

I'm once again I stress I saw no trouble on the streets of Marseille only in the ground at the end and that was caused by Russians. I'm not saying England fans were totally blameless, when you are followed by tens of thousands you are bound have the odd idiot in there.
One eye witness account I have been told by a couple of Bradford fans was that they were about a block or two back from the old port away from any possible trouble when a van pulled up at a bar up the road a load of Russians piled out of the back and just smashed a restaurant/bar up full of England fans sat down enjoying a bite to eat and having a quiet drink. No provocation what so ever, they said it could quite easily have been them.

In Lens we spent the day before and Matchday in the Town and again so no problems what so ever between anybody. People were drinking, eating and having a good laugh, even the same after the game.

The day before the match in St Etienne we ventured into Lyon where Romania,Albania,Slovakia and England fans were all getting on fine even the odd German looked be be getting on without any bother. Once more plenty of people socialising without anybody...you could even see groups of fans singing each other's songs and having a party.

Yes loads of singing, yes the odd 'German bomber song' and always plenty of 'don't take me home' but all in good spirits. Not once did I see anyone throw a bottle or smash a glass on the floor, not once did I see a fan throw a punch in the street(only the Russians in the ground)not once did I see football fans fighting in the streets and my tour took in Marseiile,Dijon,Lens,Paris and St Etienne.

The atmosphere in the grounds were superb and got better and better with each game, England fans deserve credit where it is due, 99% of England fans out there have been a credit to the Nation and long May that continue....now who want to pay for me a trip to Paris a week on Sunday?

Really??? So they let them travel into France for the Euro's. Was that a tactic to let them have their fun before their own World Cup?
