I expected this unacceptable scenario to unfold at some stage of Euro 2016 because the previous football history, particularly in matches associated with England and English fans, reveals the usual violence and thuggery that deflect away from what most of us are interested in - the football event itself!! It certainly happened earlier than I expected and I find it amusing listening to the familiar 'we were picked on' comments that England fans utter. As the years go by, these usual defensive comments just 'fly over my head' as one realises that the England international football team and certain English fans who follow them are indeed 'the common factor'!! The 'seeds of violence are sown' (how sad!!) and I'm bracing myself to see where this unacceptable behaviour unfolds next and don't forget, England have not even played their 1st match v Russia and their fans have not departed from Marseilles yet!!! Deja vu - seen it all before and will it ever change when it comes to England fans travelling in high numbers to these kinda tourneys!!

Yes. Expecting this to happen. Not expecting it with the Welsh and the Irish though. We shall see.

We've witnessed these events before LS and I'm sure England and certain English fans have already tarnished their image in France (+ elsewhere in Europe!) in previous big tourneys and you're right - our Celtic reps will not likely see any unsavoury action like this!! The most irritating headline re this incident was a Reuters headline: British football fans cause mayhem in Marseilles! THESE TROUBLESOME FANS WERE ENGLAND FANS!!!!!!!

Well by the reports it was French fans causing trouble, but we all know how these things start.......

Having read the reports and seen clips on the news, read Twitter accounts from Journalists and supporters out there it seems that the England fans were targeted by the local Ultras, even the bar owners back this claim up.
You are always going to get trouble of some sort when the numbers increase and the beers flow but from what I've read we had around 3/4000 England fans in the area at the time and only 2 have been arrested.

You can always tell when a big tournament is starting - England fans charge the tear gas. It's Orgreave all over, we have to stop nutting those police horses and ramming our snarling faces into batons (or did I mean baguettes?). Je ne sais pas. Allez les Rosbifs.

Yep, but could it be allez allez that escalates to being another disgraceful representation of certain England fans behaving badly AGAIN!! Lets wait n see if they can't help themselves, as usual, in foreign climes! It certainly won't be a surprise!

Its the same kind of mindless idiots as we saw fighting on the pitch at Hampden a couple of weeks ago!!  Every country has them, and whether you believe it or not the reputation of the England fans does mean they will attract the local yobs as well.  Besides, one England fan was arrested in the whole thing, hardly an incident that warrants the amount of column inches it is getting!!
