Peter Uihlein leads the way by one on -8 from Pelle Edberg and looked outstanding today - maybe the one that got away.

Thomas Pieters 25/1 +1 Tied 104th

Mikko Ilonen 50/1 -1 Tied 65th

Scott Hend 45/1 -4 Tied 14th

Chapchai Nirat 80/1 -2 Tied 41st

Angelo Que 200/1 -4 Tied 14th

Hend & Que are well placed to challenge while our other players need to step it up a little. Pieters struggled but said he had had flu this week & was only just getting over it.

Have added Troy Merritt to my bets for the Valspar at 150/1 e/w.

Valspar Championship (Day One)

The field is closely bunched with Bradley, Duke & Howell III leading the way by one on -4. Quite a few big names failed to break par (Poulter +1, Grace +1, Dufner +1, Thomas +1, Oosthuizen +1, Mahan +2, McDowell +3, Choi +3, Donald +4, Speith +5, Rodgers +6, Els +6). All our players have work to do but this is a course where -10 should be a winning score so two good rounds is often what it takes.

Patrick Reed 30/1 Par Tied 25th

Harris English 35/1 +2 Tied 67th

Kevin Streelman 66/1 +8 Tied 125th

John Senden 125/1 +1 Tied 46th

Harold Varner III 250/1 +5 Tied 117th

Troy Merritt 150/1 Par Tied 25th

All over par, not the best of days but the leaders are only on -4, so a good round should put them in contention hopefully.

A great day for Scott Hend, who shot 64 to co-lead with Pelle Edberg on -12, one shot ahead of Pittayarat.

Only Reed gives us hope for the weekend, four behind the leaders, MacKenzie & Stricker in an open contest with the field bunched. Speith hit a 68 to make the weekend but several big names are going home (Kaymer, Bradley, McDowell, Simpson & Els)

Patrick Reed 30/1 -1 Tied 15th

Harris English 35/1 MC

Kevin Streelman 66/1 MC

John Senden 125/1 MC
