Feb 1st (Final Day): WBA January 2016 Transfer Window
Young Aries will by angry and disappointed as he has been going on about Charlie Austin since last summer. Whilst he did well last season and don't know why, I had my suspicions about his fitness but at circa £4m he would have been worth a punt.

4 million is very very cheap for Austin. For an English proven goal scorer that has played at all levels pretty much. Can't believe QPR agreee to that deal so early on in the window.

Thats two we've missed priced at £4m or under. Demari Gray is looking good coming on as a sub in the Vile v Lesta game.

Baggieman - not angry, just one that got away, but since he lives in the Reading area, Southampton is a good choice for him. And yes, Demarai Gray, a bargain at £3.75 million.
DevWakey - QPR sold Charlie Austin now for £4m because his contract was up in June and apparently Saints were his choice.

Hi Aries, I'm sure you're right in your assertion that Southampton was a good fit for Austin for a host of reasons. I suppose the concern I have, which may be shared by others, is that we have a strike force that couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. We desperately need some creativity in midfield and some finishing ability upfront. If things are happening behind the scenes, then fair enough but Albion's track record of using transfer windows effectively is poor and so I'm pretty pessimistic about what will happen this month. I'd be absolutely delighted to be proven wrong but I'm not positive about this. We have one genuine finisher - Berahino - and he can't get a game

West Brom are demanding £7m for Callum McManaman, 24, after QPR and Middlesbrough became the latest clubs to register an interest in the winger. (Telegraph) DD Whistle Whistle

To a degree his wages are immaterial if you are relegation candidates.  If he scores say 10-15 goals and is instrumental in keeping a slipping Soton up, then you could just as easily say he was the signing that guaranteed the 100m quid revenue next season!!  It's the same for teams at the top of the Championship.  Teams there are buying players on big wages, 30k+ per week because the reward from promotion far outweighs the outlay.  If it doesn't work, then you sell or add to it to give it another go, aka Boro and Derby!!

Austin will essentially cost Southamton around 10m this season including transfer fee, signing on fee and wages, isn't that what you paid for Rondon???

I understand it was 12m for Rondon....... I believe we're paying him as well?!
There's also the point that, if you get a decent player on a decent contract he's an asset that you can maybe sell and recoup some dosh, so that needs to be factored in to the equation too.

Charlie Austin on 80k-100k a week and also refused any move North of London so the rumour mill says.
If either/both true we never stood a cat in hells chance of signing him.
