Austin?

I was talking about Championship standard, rather than players physically signed from the Championship.

McLean already signed IMO is a Championship player based on what I saw of him at Sunderland. He was also signed
from a side relegated from the Championship.

Clark is a Championship player based on the fact he's a weak link for a side who have only been keeping their Prem
status by the skin of their teeth.

Steven Caulker just been relegated twice on the trot for sides who ship goals like they're going out of fashion. Showed
good potential earlier in his career but done little to prove he's a genuine Prem player since.

Matt Phillips is a player I like, but isn't proven as a consistent performer at Prem level. Wasn't a guaranteed starter for
QPR for much of last season and only played half the games the season they were promoted. Does look to have
good potential but don't see him as proven and the money touted is ridiculous.

All in all, I don't think we've actually put a bid in yet for someone who is proven as a Prem player week in and week
out for a decent side. Abou Diaby is arguably a class above the rest of the links but I hold no faith in him ever being fit
if we do sign him anyway.

Clark managed decent games against us. I would take him.

Other than admitting to having made Diaby an offer, I haven't seen Albion declare an interest in anyone, Prem level or whatever.  Have I missed something?

Anyone else got a nasty feeling that Berahino is off to Spurs ?
The sweetener could be Townsend and/or Lennon in return ?

I would keep Berahino AND go for Charlie Austin, and then we'd have a forward department to look forward to watching.

I think we'll keep Berahino but Austin is unlikely,Lambert will arrive next week and Diaby. Then pick a winger and pay what they want, Antonio won't happen imo so probably Phillips for about 10m or Gnabry on loan. A full back for each side (this should be a priority really) and we'd be almost done.

DD - This is lazy weekend journalism (I hope). Why would JP, who is tight, sell Saido for such a small sum.

This is the period when Albion's genuine interest in players becomes visible. It's always been about late July and early August for us, unless there was already an agreement in place prior to end of season.

I'd expect this week and the next to be where thing get going. And yes, it's after others splash big cash in panic or because they have deep pockets - but that does not make their signing right or financial sound.
